Tattoo Stories?

Postby Ira » Tue Jan 31, 2006 11:14 pm

(Did I spell "tattoo" correctly?)

I'm still pissed that Doug's limerick thread pounced me in the Best Thread contest, and I hope he just LOVES that blanket he won. (I couldn't stand the color ANYWAY, so who needs it!? It didn't even look all that WARM! And it probably has MOTHS hatching in it right now TOO!)

So herein is my early entry for the next contest:

Tattoos.

I know there are a million reasons people get them, a million people that REGRET getting them, and a million with incredible emotional connections to theirs, with some great stories.

I bring this up because after moving to Florida 14 years ago, I was amazed at how many beautiful, really young girls plastered their asses on up with huge tattoos, something I just didn't see much of up in New York.

Any good tattoo stories in this bunch?

(By the way, did you know that if you're tattoed, you can't be buried in a Jewish cemetary? So aren't some of you really sorry NOW!?)
Here we go again!

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm not crazy about tats. Especially on women. If I see a good lookin woman walkin down the street or on the beach, and she shows a tat,all interest dies. They are beatifull just the way God made them. My daughter (23) got a tat on her shoulder, (after I told her how I felt) and even tho it's not a bad looking tatto, it was quite a while before I could talk to her civilly again. I know it's my problem, but I still don't like them.

Tattoos are the long hair of the past.
To day we color design modify and tweak the transport shell.
I’m not sayin it’s for every one I’m just sayin as you look at some one and try to decide how you feel about what they have done to there body just remember 1 thing. They won!
Yep that’s right.
Most do it to separate them selves from the norm.
Is a story with most Tattoos’ and Mod’s?
I can only speak for my self
.
17 Tattoo’s
32 Piercing (most I don’t wear any more)
1 Branding
2many Scar’s to count

Loads of Story's

Yet another way to look at is, you’re a TD, TT.
And the rest of the world are Future TD, TT-er's

I say if you want one, that's your business. Same with piercings. I just think that some people don't really think things through first. And its probably a bad idea to put someone else's name on your body most of the time. There is a kid that goes to school with my daughter that comes to mind. He had his girlfriend's name tattooed on his leg, then they broke up. He went back and had a dagger drawn through her name. He is only 17. Maybe this is why Oklahoma still doesn't allow tattoos. Legally that is.

No, I don't have any tattoos, but have had my ears pierced in 5 places. (The hole at the top has grown over.) And haven't worn more than 2 earrings at a time in years.

Interesting topic Ira.

Myself, I have 4 tattoos, all during my time in the USAF. In fact, I have one on each forearm, old school military style. One of those things I guess, I just felt the urge to get one at first. The first one I got is a rose with my wife's (then girlfriend) name in it. I know risky, but I was confident. Guess it worked, because I had the tat put on in 1983, and we are happily married today! After I got the rose tat, I sent her a dozen roses, my way of telling her I got it.

The other three were just something I did over time, each were applied for a reason, a Phoenix to show there is always a chance to start anew, a snake, just to show that everyone has a side that is dangerous or uncertain, and a Pegasus, just because we all need a dream. I know, sounds weird, but that's that.

No regrets.

"Don't know the reason that I stayed here all season,
With nothing to show but this brand new tattoo,
But it's a real beauty, a Mexican cutie,
How it got here I haven't a clue."

Jimmy Buffett

I'd venture a guess that old Jimmy is to blame for lots of tattoos on the older crowd. When I dropped out of "civilian" life I threw away all the suits and ties, bought a sailboat, then got a tattoo. Although I've never been a "parrothead" I do have a parrot inked on my shoulder, what good old pirate doesn't? After the first tattoo, you start to crave the needle and want another, and another, and another... nothing like a little low level constant pain to get the endorphins flowing. I don't have an addictive personality however and stopped at a "few". I was never a part of the tribal culture, too old I guess, but I admire some of the extreme artwork that beautifies some folks. It's just not for everyone. Funny how some people will judge another by what's colored on their skin.

I have six tattoos, one is a coverup of a nice design but bad ink...the work was too fine to repair so we spent 3 mos designing the cover and 16.5 hours in the chair doing the work...haven't had another since but I've always got the urge for more :)

I know this nice Jewish boy who is a tattoo artist on the west coast of Florida. His mom being the nurturing, supportive type let him practice his art upon her flesh. She has very colorful "sleeves", tropicals mostly. He opened his first shop about 10 years ago with one small tourist trap tattoo parlor doing the spring break crowd tattoos, he now owns 4 shops. Although he isn't a big name artist, he is quite successful.

Ok, true story. A guy knocks on this ladies door. He is selling tattoos door-to-door. Her and a couple of her friends decide to get them. They admit his "gun" looks homemade but what the heck. A day later they are all sick, one of them in the hospital. They are getting their HIV and hepititus tests at this time. Moral of the story, don't buy your tattoos from a door-to-door saleman.

My ex wife was thinking about getting a rose on her butt cheek right after we were married ,,,25 years ago,,, she didnt get it but we were talking recently ,, she said if she would have gotten it she would have a full bocquet now,, she gained a bit of weight,,

It is amazing the number of tatt's that hide under those three piece suits and dresses in upscale american business,, my girlfriend is in corp banking and wears a good size back piece under the suit ,, but come quitting time and warm weather its definately in the open

It is amazing how people can be so stupid.

I know of a guy who does tattoo work out of his house (which is illegal here), but I know he uses new disposable needles each time. Still not sure I'd go to him for one....because of the legal issue. He's good, though. I've seen his work.

I have two tats myself. One is a large cross on my leg, the other is J.S. Bach's monogram on my shoulder. They were both done by a licensed artist in a studio. I really like them, but they are placed such that I can cover them up for professional reasons.

No tattoos here. Don't think I have the guts to do something to my body which can't be easily corrected. Did wear a ponytail, and a ring in my ear for about 10 years. But got rid of both about 2 years ago. If I could get rid of a tattoo that easily, I just might do it. The entire process does intrigue me. My girlfriend is always poking me when I can't help but stare at those low back tattoos some of the girls wear. WHEW! :R
Chris :D

The tension between what is good enough and what is beyond that creates the space for character to become our work.

Last time we were eating downtown at a restaurant lots of young people hang out at, I noticed most of the women (and ALL of the waitstaff) had tattoos. LOTS of them; up and down arms, up the neck (ouch!); most quite detailed and intricate. Quite beautiful considering you're stuck with them for the rest of your life (unless you wish to get them burned off by laser therapy down the road).

As I was eating, I noticed a young fella walking down the street with half his head shaved, tattoos over most of his exposed skin, piercings in his ears, eyebrows, lip and a LARGE bullring in this nose. Not a nose ring. A bullring. Brought back memories of living on the farm as a kid.

The guy scared the boogers out of me.

Would I hire this bejeweled, decked out fella if he applied for a job in the health care field I work in? Nope.
