Lantern spotted in Lost Horizon 1937

Postby Darren » Tue Feb 15, 2011 11:46 am

So I'm watching Lost Horizon last night and right at the beginning they lose power, I'm thinking to myself that someone is going to pull out a lantern and they did. I grabbed a couple of screen shots. The actors name is Ronald Colman.

Towards the end of the movie I spotted this lamp. I thought it looked like a pressure lamp but I think there is a cord running to it.

Old movies are great! Any idea what lantern that was? It was sacrificed to start a fire, thrown at barrels of gas. :(

Beware Darren, you're developing a bad case of Colemanitis ;)

My guess is that it's a Prentiss Wabers (Preway) lantern. Maybe an 742-43 model, it would be correct period wise I think.

I've been to several salvation army type stores looking for them, no luck at all. Now I'm waiting for the garage sales to start up. :)

Cool. That looks like the same lantern to me or pretty close.

I've not had any luck at the thrift stores either. My best methods seem to be g-sales, Craigslist and trading with friends. 8)
