Hi There

Postby pat g » Thu Feb 17, 2011 8:54 pm

Hi All,

I've been lurking around this site for a bit. My friend Barb is a member and has built a couple of teardrops. I am finishing a build of a basic camper trailer about 5.5 X 9.5 feet X about 5 feet high (inside height) I used an old frame from a pop up, built a base/floor of treated ply, walls of osb, roof of aluminum, and covered with cloth glued and painted. I trimmed out the exterior with reclaimed oak. Inside I just have two beds, two kitchen cabinets, a fold down table and one built in cabinet. I just have to wire trailer lights, finish painting the exterior, and rebuild the electric brakes before getting the thing weighed and getting plates. I'm not much for posting pictures but the exterior shape is angular ala the weekender but the bottom is squared off to get max interior space. I intend to use my trailer for whitewater kayaking and camping with my wife. This has been a learning experience and a recycling project for me. I'm working on some ideas to build a very light trailer next winter that I could tow behind pretty much anything. Your site has been a great resource for me. Thanks!

Hi Pat. from Medina. Janny and I are on the north side. Remsen Rd. If you need help with the pictures let me know.
We are going over to Indiana 7-14 , 7-16 they are a great bunch of folks over there. Going to be a great time with a lot of folks from all around Ohio. If you want to go I can get behind you and push,
Our tear is store bought, but I am gathering stuff to start a bigger one for some long trips we want to make here in a few years. Janny has some family out west we want to go see.
If you would like to come look at the tear just let me know.

Hi Erv and Jan,

You are close by my place. I'm on Pearl Road in the township next to Vel's Party Center.

Hi Pat
Just a mile or two. We are down about a mile from Rt.42 on the south side of Remsen. Have a white picket fence across the front yard. Its the only one on the road I think.
How did you like that last snow? Still trying to get it all cleaned up at work. I work right up town, retirement complex called Forest Meadows Villas, it is right behind Pizza Hut on North Jefferson. Janny works there with me.
How long you been in the area? We have been on Remsen about 36 years now.

Hi Erv and Jan,

I had fun with the snow. The flood the other day was a real trip! The last 30 feet of my driveway was washed into my front yard. I had to regrade the whole thing the next day. My dog was temporarily relocated to a tent by the garage. This is the highest I've seen the river in the 25 years that we have been in this house. Next day the river was low enough for me to kayak.

I think I know your house. You guys had a canoe out front for sale a while back? I should be able to get back to working on the trailer soon but first I have to build a cradle for our Grandson who is due in April. Would like to meet you guys sometime.

Pat
Glad you made it through the flooding. Would be nice to meet you-all too. Janny and I have been on Remsen 35 years in two houses. But have only moved 400' east and 60' south, Ha.
Yes that was my canoe, still have it. No one wanted to give me $200 for it. So it is still in the back yard.
Are you planning on going over to Indiana in July? I just got a PM from Rich and Val about going to East Harbor the last part of April, We are thinking about going there too. If work and weather line up.
How far along are you on your build?

Hi Erv.,

I've been busy, not on here much lately. I have mostly finished all except interior electric, which will be very basic. I have tires on the way and then will be able to get the trailer weighed plated and road tested. I did check the tongue weight but forgot that I had a bunch of tools in the trailer but even so came in under 190 pounds. My goal was to be under 200 pounds tongue weight. I know that I will be able to control the tongue wt. some by how I load the trailer. I hope to get done in time to camp at Slippery Rock in Pa. next week.

BTW, I took pics but cannot find the cable for the camera to upload. I'll get there.
