Coleman products come to the rescue again!

We've been under a major storm for like 3 days now and the snow is really piling up. Power went out last night about 1AM. I knew it was dumping as I could hear the big whumps of snow off the trees on the roof and the occasional clank of a car going down the road with chains on.

Showered with the 242 blazing, you all ought to try the #99 mantles...way bright!...breakfast with the birthday lantern Chris gave me and cooked it on a restored 1948 413C. The car is just a white lump with a mirror sticking out. Doug

Oh, that was sooooo last week. Snow, ice, frigid temperatures. Been there, done that, just a week ago.

Today, it was sunny and 81 degrees.

I did use my lanterns tonight -- to grill my chicken, in shorts and a t-shirt. 8)

Oh, well. I somehow think you enjoyed roughing it with your Coleman lanterns and stoves.

I hope the snow goes before the fun factor wears off.

Hey Doug, you are not sending that stuff my way are you?

Just cause I have 5 working lanterns, 7 working stoves, 1 catalytic heater, and 5 gallons of fuel in the house doesn't mean I really want to have to use them

El Paso had a major storm last week where the pipes froze all over town. Local stores sold out all their Coleman products and fuel. Good thimng I was stocked up.

Also, I had gone down to the local flea marjket looking for some picks wnd one of the owners told me during the storm he sold all his Coleman lanterns and stoves because so many people had no power! Damn! I hope they weren't collectables! :worship:

There's a fun factor with snow??

No, I mean before the fun of roughing it with his Coleman products goes away. Roughing it is one of those manly things that is fun... up to a point.

What is this "snow" and "storms" you all are talking about? Here in Southern California these are unknown, please enlighten.

We do, though, have occasional minor earth "tremors". The two stand out in my mind. The February 9th, 1971 and the January 17, 1994 shakers are very memorable for me. The first on shook me to my knees when I was standing in a door jamb and holding on for dear life. The second was a "non event" in our area but as I drove to the phone company's "Emergency Opperating Center" to report to work I drove past freeway overpasses that had collapsed, houses in the process of burning to the ground (due to a lack of water to fight the fire with) and entire sides of buildings missing).

The nice thing about an earthquake versus a storm is that if you can find a route out of your area, as the damage is rather localized, you can escape the carnage, get a hotel/motel rooom, and find anything you desire as things are quite normal even a short distance from the epicenter. You can find and buy virtually anything you need away from the epicenter. Earthquakes do have their good points as far as "disasters".

TIP: When a "big one" hits, as soon as the ground stops shaking, get on the telephone (if it still works which is very likely as telephone systems are very robust and actually run off of batteries for reliability) and call someone out of the area to get the word out to your friends and family (you should have a prearranged list of people that might worry about you) that you and yours are OK (assuming this to be the case, which in all likelyhood it will be).

Cheers,

Gus

Good to hear.

Coleman to the rescue!

I for one am grateful to both Doug and to Gus... both were instrumental in my inspiration to learn about and acquire Coleman products for both camping and emergency preparedness.

Thanks, guys; my affection for these wonderful gas pressure appliances has grown far beyond anything I imagined.
