Hello from MN

Postby CARS » Tue Mar 01, 2011 1:11 pm

Hello. My name is Chris. I do automotive restoration for a living in Comfrey, MN. (CARS is Chris' Autobody Restoration Service).

My wife Becky and I saw our first Tear Drop camper last year at a metal shaping event and thought it would be a great camper for us to pull behind our '68 Dart to shows and the drag strip. Since the kids are all teenagers, they have no interest in camping with mom and dad anymore anyway so we'll part the pop-up and pickup slide in campers and travel light. (who can afford to fill a 80's big block Ford 3/4 ton with gas anyway these days?).

We both like the New Cub design (found the prints somewhere around this site while lurking the past few months). Since we are pulling our future TD with a compact classic car, it's going to be a light one. Minimal kitchen and lightweight construction. Really leaning towards using alot of rigid foam.

Well, thanks for all the information. Hopefully I can contribute something as I go through this construction project.

Welcome Chris, do ya ever get to BIR? Do ya ever see this guy?

He's my BIG brother (in more ways than 1)

Maybe I'll see ya at the track. I usually camp in the pits behind the maintenance garage.

Good luck on your build and post some pics along the way.

Hey Chris, welcome from a fellow Minnesotan.

Teardrops and street rods just seem to go together. Check my album for pics of our homebuilt that we take to many rod events and teardrop gatherings.

If you are an MSRA member, we will be camping at the Spring Campout in Pine Island on May 21st.

Lot's of teardroppers here in Minnesota, so come out to a gathering and get all the ideas you can handle.

If nothing else, we can talk cool cars and rods.

Thanks for the welcome!

BIR.... ugh.... I usually don't remember much by Sunday  The nationals is just one big party for Becky and I. I actually took her there for our honeymoon 8+ years ago. The family thought I was nuts, but I knew we would have a blast. The Zoo is such a great mix of people.

I don't belong to any car clubs but get to as many shows as I can. I'm usually there to solicit work and hang out with past customers  (plus it's all deductible for me. shh, don't tell the irs!)

Not sure where in Mn that is but I've got friends & relatives in St. Cloud and we try to go to Alexandria every summer (don't always make it but we try). I love Minnesota! Didn't know there was a camper group from there. Do they only take teardroppers?

The St. Croix Chapter of the Tearjerkers allow any campers to our gatherings. It doesn't matter what you camp in. Join us if you like. We'd love to meet you!
