TheresaD wrote::( Becca I'm sooo sorry to see what happened to your baby! I'm glad you weren't hurt though and that the damage wasn't worse. Having a tire/wheel fail on the highway is a huge fear of mine when I'm towing my trailer. I can only imagine how scared you got when you realized what was happening. Good for you for keeping your cool and keeping everything upright and on the road. Very impressive! Hopefully it won't be too difficult to fix the damage and you'll be out caming again very soon.
Thanks T and Happy Birthday girl!
I didn't have time to be scared when I heard the blowout - all I could do was watch the mirrors and talk, talk, talk to myself and the trailer saying, "Come on baby, come on baby, easy, easy, easy, easy". I got shook up after I got it pulled over and went look at the damage. When I opened the door to the trailer, smoke came rolling out and I thought it was on fire but it was just the burned rubber/smoke from the tire. I could feel my hair turning gray!
I had a pity party for about 5 minutes, then I got mad at myself for not getting new tires sooner. After throwing a few unlady like words out, I called my husband, then I called my insurance company, told them what happened and asked them to call for a FLATBED tow truck. I started taking pictures for insurance purposes, then the Pasco County Officers pulled up and helped me look for more mangled kitchenware.
It all fell into place after that. One officers son worked for a mom n pop tire store (S&R Tires) at the next exit so he called him and they had 2 in stock. The tow truck driver was so gentle with the Scotty - couldn't have asked for a better driver! He charged me 1/2 the normal tow fee! I was so delighted I gave him a $20 tip. The tire people were great! They stopped working on another car and got right on it, AND, gave me a 20% on the tires.
An experience that started out frightening, turned into a good experience with the help of 2 kind police officers (Ebony & Ivory, their names, not mine) a gentle tow truck driver (Stepps Towing) and wonderful people at S & R Tires, located at 32643 SR 52 in San Antonio, FL (352) 588-3000. (Sorry, didn't mean to advertise for them but if you are ever in those parts and need tires, they are great people to deal with).
