They use this tape to build campers and semi trailers. I think they also use it to hold in windows on high rise buildings.

Bob when you see a semi with no rivits/screws that was how it was put together. Check out the 3M VHB web site.

I'm surprised Andrew didn't mention Dandan's Roswell.

It is an awesome example of a SS trailer.

I don't know very many "expert" weldor/fabricators that could pull this off...

<edit> My bad; that's 3000 series Aluminum.

Still nice gratuitous pic, though.
I'll 2nd the 3M VHB tape. We use it at work and everyone I know calls it "300 mph tape". I assume there is a reason for that...

The tape is very strong stuff. 3M also makes another product that may work for you that could take out the welding SS to the steel framing you put up. It is a automotive body panel adhesive. Many, many body shops use it when they cut out large dents and replace with new body panels.

Unfortunately I forget what it is called, but I have used it myself on a Ford Bronco. It has microscopic glass bead in it to hold the two pieces apart far enough to allow for expanding metal etc. It is very expensive, but would be cheaper than paying for a new welder or having a shop weld it. I would not hesitate to use it on an all metal teardrop. It would also allow you to connect dissimilar metals without issue. So you could make all aluminum framing, and use the adhesive to connect the SS to the framing. I would bet you it would come out fairly close to the weight of a regular wooden camper.

Do a write up for sure if you use SS. Would be a cool project, just hate to drive behind you in the sun.

You're right - but it was for a reason. To build Dandan's Roswell, you need Dandan's almost superhuman sheetmetal-working skills. And if you've got those skills, you don't need to ask any questions, 'cos you already know the answers.....

Exactly why I added this caveat:

By "very many" I may have sounded generous.
"More than one maybe two" is probably a more accurate statement...

RE: Stainless Steel Construction

Hi hallotp,

I thought of this when I first read your new thread, back when, but couldn't
recall where I'd seen it or even what it was called. I just happened
to come across it tonight so searched T&TTT for your post.

This was built from a Stainless Steel Milk Tanker semi-trailer!

http://www.dobbertinhydrocar.com/Dobber ... biter.html

Anything may be possible if you try hard enough it seems.

Maybe you could find a smaller SS storage tank [probably expensive
though] you could adapt into a TD.

It's fun looking through the website in any event.

Cheers,
Norm/mezmo
