My etched globes.

Lanterns, stoves, etc... anything old!

doug hodder wrote:Darren...how about this? Mask off the graphics...and dust the rest of the lantern globe for a diffused light, like some of the Colemans had done, only more. Won't make for the big blast of light that they give off and you won't go blind staring into a mantle...more of a local thing for dinner or playing cards late at night, without lighting up the whole area. I gotta get a bag of media to play with...., just an idea. Doug

And a good idea Doug. I have thought about making replacement globes for the 275's and others that were frosted also.

I wonder how a half clear and half frosted globe would work.

They're nice Darren. I have a few of the factory ones with the upper half done in the block pattern. I like 'em, but tend to not use them much. They are $25 and up to replace now.

Thank you Scott. The lantern came today, my birthday even. It's a beauty.

Shaun, I was thinking more of one side clear and the opposite side frosted. That way you could choose which side of the lantern to use for different lighting.

I like the idea of custom lantern globes

doug hodder wrote:Darren....how heavy of an etch do you think those globes can handle? I was wondering as they go through heat/cool cycles even if it is pyrex. Have you run one through it's paces? Let me know what you find out....I want to do up a couple of mine. The ones Dean did were just lightly etched, your's appear a lot heavier. Doug

I don't think the depth of the etch is going to be a problem, time will tell. I ran the lantern for about 4 hours today with a couple of cool downs. No cracks or any other visual problems. At least yet. :D I'll run it some more tomorrow.

Thanks. I made this one today using Doug's idea. It's part of a bigger project I have going on with the trailer. The Made in China logo etched off cleanly which was a plus.

Thanks Cliff. I've been testing it today to see how it holds up to heat and cold cycles. No problems so far. I like the diffused light it puts off.

I need a better camera.

Depends on what you want on it. A couple of people are working on designing ones for themselves or I could put something together for you.

Email or PM me.
