I suppose I should update my contribution to the T&TTT Big Hat Collective...

This Sears was my last lantern acquisition for the foreseeable future; I have 'enough' lanterns now and still a teardrop to finish...

Getting this lantern to this condition involved days of work; I'm not going to do that again for quite some time, regardless of what might come my way.

I will always be a Coleman enthusiast therefore I will always therefore look for a good deal on one in the wild... but, for now... I'm taking an "intermission".

There are more 'big hats' in my collection, but I don't have the proper pics. I've been busy a-lanternin'!

Hey! Hey... hey... hey now... :R

It's been over two weeks since I bid on anything... I'm between assignments at work... have purchased two very nice long guns... and what's left in dollars will be going to the care and feeding (at $10 gallon!) of the 25 of 31 lanterns that run!

25 good, solid users!!!

You people are a bad influence. ;)

I bought one over the weekend at a sporting goods consignment store in Bishop Ca. Went up there to go fishing but the weather was nasty so went shopping instead!

Anyhoo, it's a 4-57 228E in pretty good shape, paid 20.00 for it which was more than I usually spend for anything. Not the bargain that some people find but better than some.

A few weeks ago I found a very dirty 242C at a thrift store for 8 bucks.

Now I have to figure out what the heck to do with them...Never had fuel lanterns before. The little one needs cleaning bad and probably needs new parts. The big hat looks like it might actually work.

Better find some tutorials so I don't burn something (or someone) up or break something that don't need breaking.

edited the transposed numbers on the second lantern!

Lizbeth, welcome to the club!!

At the bottom of the home page is the tutorial on fixing and how to light and care for your new lanterns.

Thanks Dawn!

Been doing some reading, looks like a steep learning curve to take one apart, clean everything, get it back together...so it actually works!
