The season for Scams is upon us...

Postby Pottercounty » Fri Mar 25, 2011 2:45 pm

...especially in the RV ads. Just today I contacted a seller of a 2002 Casita 17 ft wanting 6800.00 He didn't have a phone# or pictures. I emailed & he gave me a fake Ph#. I emailed him back & he said it was sold.....all in the matter of 15 minutes from intial contact to final contact.

Amazing...

Watch out, they're starting to come out on Craigslist..

Scammers

Postby Wild Bill » Fri Mar 25, 2011 7:36 pm

They are everywhere and will be the demise of E-bay and all others if the companies cannot get it under control. It all boils down to societies moral fabric being torn in half and dragged thru the dirt. I would not buy anything I find anywhere without first seeing it and COD. Way too many scammers out there, fake sellers AND buyers. Like a guy said, taking the scam out of scamp. As the old saying goes, if it seems too good to be true it probably is. They have been around for decades, now they just scam electronically and can do more with less work. Too bad, it WAS a great way to buy and sell. Bill

I'm a little confused here...first, how did you know it was a fake phone number, unless you called and found it to be a wrong number (possibly a typo?)...and if he gave you a wrong number, and then said it was sold, how were they suposed to scam any money from you?

Scammers.

Postby Wild Bill » Fri Mar 25, 2011 8:28 pm

Just for fun I went to craigs list Indy and found what I think is a scam. A 1999 13 foot Casita for only $2820. Pictures show Palm trees in the back ground. Then I switched locations and found the same trailer same pictures on Chicago Craigs list. Post # 2279342167 Then I reported this to Craigs list. Common for scammers to post the same add in all the large citys in the U.S. Fishing for 1 person that will even leave a depost via wire transfer, They get one now and then. Responded to the mail address, will update this post with the results. I said your ad has scammer all over it, so I do not suspect I will hear back. Bill 8)

Yes Bill, I did call the number. It was a someone from Wisconsin who didn't know what I was talking about, I apologized & explained.... then I emailed him back & told him he gave me a wrong number and within 2 minutes he emailed me back stating the trailer was sold.
I don't know why the seller wwould do any of it...it was just weird. He didn't list any pictures or any description other than, Casita 2002 17 ft and a price. I emailed him back to ask about pictures and he sent me a link to "Casita.com" I decided then to ask for a phone # and you know the rest...

Not only trailer scams out there ... seems not a day goes by ,I don't get these suspicious e-mails that say I've won a Lottery , or inherited money , or have an opportunity in a business venture ... all mailed to "undisclosed recipients" ..... Obvious scams , but just so many ... it's Crazy !!! Should be illegal ,but who do you report these too ...

You know if these didn't work for the suckers , they wouldn't be so plentiful .... P.T. Barnum effect ....

People do amazing things for money. Legally or Illegally, it just seems people work way to hard to get it. Capitalism has reached middle age and has lost the blush of youth.

It's not just the little guys. If any of you the John Stossel report last night about freeloaders you will know that corporate America does the same thing with the blessing (and giving) of our government.

Thanks for posting the ABC story about the homeless, Arne. I have often wondered if all of these guys are for real. Guess not.

I was scammed this last week. A guy on craigslist supposedly has a salvaged title Rv
The price for this rv trailer was free just help me out by hauling it off i will give you a salvaged title and you can part out or rebuild it.
If its just real enough or seems to good to be true. it might be.
Here is how it went down
#1the guy didn't post pics
#2 the guy wouldn't call me back :scratchthinking:
#3 I re email under different account thinking maybe my 1st email went to his spam junk mail still no answer.
#4 the guy then reposted still no pics on post
#5 He sends me a link an insurance Blog the pics are Here. "No come and get it at this location."
# 6 I'm on the hook he is reeling me in I have to look at these pics Right?
all the sudden friends calling me asking why I'm spamming them with work from home/and be your own boss ads.
I had a virus had to change all passwords and apologize to customers and friends

Sadly this is a big reason that they run the ads. It's another type of phishing scam. Sorry they caused you all the grief.
