Lizbeth
You people are a bad influence.
I bought one over the weekend at a sporting goods consignment store in Bishop Ca. Went up there to go fishing but the weather was nasty so went shopping instead!
Anyhoo, it's a 4-57 228E in pretty good shape, paid 20.00 for it which was more than I usually spend for anything. Not the bargain that some people find but better than some.
A few weeks ago I found a very dirty 224C at a thrift store for 8 bucks.
Now I have to figure out what the heck to do with them...

Lizbeth, congrats! on your acquisition... but be aware that now that you have two, they will mulitipy. Just a heads up.

It's wonderful that you have an "E" version of the 228 as I think they are not only the neatest-looking, they're also the most durable, reliable, wonderful lanterns.
If you run into any trouble whatsoever during the disassembly of your lanterns or just want some advice on how best to "play" them when firing them up, do not hesitate to contact me. I too am in the southern CA region and would be happy to share what I've learned about these great appliances.
