Why isn't anyone talking about the SCTT gathering last week?

Postby Troy Palmer » Thu Mar 31, 2011 11:19 pm

I new to the forum and don't mean to stir the pot- I just find it strange that 122 Teardrops camped for three days last weekend and no one is taking about it or posting pictures.
Thanks

Troy,

I was not there and I don't know anything about it. What should I say?

Feel free to start a thread about the even and post your pictures for us. We do like to look at pretty pictures.

What would you like to say about the gathering?

I had a great time even during the rain. That was my tenth time there and it was great to see a lot of old friends. Seamed that a lot of old friends weren't there this year but it was great company.

He missed getting a picture of my trailer, too, Gage (Kay & I were there, arrived Thursday afternoon) ... and missed Carol Reed's from Las Vegas, as well. Could be that they were mostly hidden by the EZ-Up and tarps, trying to stay dry & warm ... ;) ...!

This was our first trip to Lake Perris, and I thought it was nice (I've heard many negative remarks about the park, but I found it pleasant enough ... and if the weather had been better, Kay could have worn her high heels ... :D ...!).

It was great to meet up with old friends I haven't seen in over 5 years, and make a few new ones! And, it sounds like the new hosts/organizers will be carrying on the tradition ... ... I wish them good luck!

Did anyone catch our human pinwheel sparklers Saturday night ... ...? Kay got a couple of videos ... maybe she'll post 'em later. We got a few pics, but here's one of us just before we left Sunday morning ...

SCTT Lake Perris Gathering. MY FIRST

Postby Ken's Teardrop » Sat Apr 02, 2011 9:06 am

My wife Kay and I made it to our first Teardrop gathering at Lake Perris last weekend. Our Teardrop was not totally complete, but we did get it registered and street legal. We registered it at AAA and I was done in about 20 minutes. All of the information I received on this forum really helped me move it along.
I will have pictures of the Lake Perris gathering on my profile album, and will hopefully get them directly on this link soon.
We had a good time walking around and talking to everyone. Everyone was so wonderful. We had some rain, and it got pretty cold for SoCal, but it was still a lot of fun. My wife, who really doesn't care for camping that much, thoroughly enjoyed our trip, and can't wait to go on another one.

If you are looking for the pictures, go into my profile and you can find the Album there. I don't know why it doesn't show up on my postings. If anyone knows, please let me know so I can fix it.

Thank you for posting the pictures. This was my first visit to this event with a tailer and I had a great time. Many people out on Saturday asking questions and thinking about building or buying a Teardrop.

I took yours but it was too blurry to post, I have standards.

Not sure if I got 100% of the trailers, I did really take a few stinker photos.

As tear drop "newbie", this was my first ever tear drop event. It was fun even with the cool and damp weather. Maybe next year I will tow with a car that actually has wipers, fenders, and side windows! I met and talked to a lot of new TD builders or people interested in getting into the TD hobby. Perris was a great location, easy to find, close to services "if needed" and had nice and clean facilities. We planned to go to the car races on Saturday night, but it was cancelled due to the poor weather

I was really impressed with some of the early original trailers, very nice.

Even though I'm new to the tear drop scene, I have been a car guy for a long time and attend many different kinds of events. I have been into early classic Mustangs, classic VW's, and currently into drag racing VW's, Hot Rods, and Motorcycles. Many of these car events/shows have thousands of entries. When you attend the annual Los Angeles Roadster show, a Good Guys hot rod show, a VW Bug-In or the VW Classic, the Knott's Berry Farm FORD Day you will see many different kinds of vehicles. They just park each kind in different areas, Roadsters, trucks, Mustangs, etc in there own areas. I just don't get the politics of a tear drop only event. Based on other successfull event formats, it would seem to me that a vintage trailer show "welcome to all" with separate areas for TD, Tiny Travel trailers, campers, etc. would be a popular event in a area with our large So Cal population.

My favorite thing to do is cruise the swap meet early, then look at the car show, catch some burgers before hitting vendors row to see what is new.

I'm sure each camp has it's own argument on why ther position is the correct one, but I just don't get it.

I always enjoy the Perris Gathering. The 1/4 Nelson "Stacker" and I were there, meeting old and new friends and getting a few laughs along the way. Oops, I almost got a hernia flippin the trailer up on end, so many times. Well, at least I know it is camp-worthy, and probably will be my long-distance TD of choice, since it tows so effortlessly. Every year I am amazed at the quality of teardrops, new, restored or those built entirely from scratch, often by folks who have never built one before.

I am glad that the tradition will continue, and Dave and Deane will finally have a chance to leisurely enjoy the many teardrops next year, just like the rest of us do. Looking forward to Perris in 2012, and hopefully, it will be as big or bigger than 2011.

As a final thought, thanks to all for the kind comments about my little rig, and NO, it's not a TD shaped outhouse or phone booth, and NO, I don't have to sleep standing up! Hmm, I wonder why my toes touch the hatch-lid when I am in bed. By the way, I failed to bring my camera and didn't get any pics of my TD's maiden voyage. If anyone has any, please PM me and perhaps they can be emailed to me. Thanks in advance.

:? Roly ~~ (long live light-weight teardrop trailers) ;)
