Hello from Tennessee

Postby amad » Thu Mar 31, 2011 8:48 pm

I just finished my teardrop. It is 8' x 4'. No galley. Just a bed and two shelves inside. Took my dad and I two weeks to build it. Pulling it with my smart car. Less than 400 pounds total. This is the only picture I have of it so far. :D

200lbs would be great for my motorcycle. Got any pics of the build? Materials?

Thanks! I know, the car is smaller than the teardrop. I built the teardrop specifically to be pulled by this car. It pulls it well. I am including some pics of the build. I used a small Harbor Freight trailer to build on. I did have to end up putting a different, stronger length of steel for the tongue. I built an extended frame using 2x2's. The floor is 1/2" plywood. The walls are 1/4" plywood. The roof is 1/8" plywood. I covered the roof with rubber roof material for motorhomes/campers. I put a 2' high section of diamond plate on the front. The colors are blue and silver to match the car. I'll take better pics of the outside this weekend and load them up.

Here's the trailer and 2x2 frame.

Here's with the floor on. I put tar on the bottom of the floor. The entire camper got treated with CPES.

The build continues:

And continues:

1/8" plywood bent easily and is strong.

Finished product again:

Thanks! If you know of a gathering of teardrops anywhere within 100 miles or so of Knoxville anytime, let me know. My dad just finished making one himself, too.

Cool trailer...an ambitious undertaking, for sure. Gives me hope for my Nissan Juke.

Great job on that teardrop. Thanks for the pictures and street info. Your initial picture looked exactly like the street where my brother lives in Powell.

Tell me more about the Crossville gathering. When? Where? etc. I would love to make it. My dad also recently made one and would like to come, too. Is there a thread discussing it?

Thanks!

Hi Aaron,

The information is posted over on the Tearjerkers site.

Here is the link to our 2011 camping schedule. Don't worry about the reservation deadline, just call the campground and tell them you are with the Tearjerkers. Some of us will be arriving on Thursday, and some on Friday.

Send me a PM or email me if you have any questions.
