Hey Everybody,
I'm still trying to figure a few things out for my build. I plan on using 1/4 inch thick exterior grade plywood for the outside skin. I'll glue and screw it to the frame. After that, what type of filler do you use to cover the screws before painting?

PD, MinWax makes a pretty good two part wood filler...you can also use Bondo(not my favorite) or other types of wood fillers...epoxy with micro balloons added makes about the best filler available........................

Thanks MadJack and Gus. I had never heard of Micro Balloons before. I just read about them on-line and they sound like a great idea. :applause:

PD, if you go thataway, mix up your epoxy first and then add the microballoons until you get a putty about the consistency of peanut butter...it'll take more than you think to get there...a little bit goes a long way, so make SMALL batches..............

p.s if you don't already have epoxy on hand, you may wish to go with a more conventional wood filler to save some bux...............mj

MadJack,
When looking on line about micro balloons, most of the information came from hobby stores. They use it for filler with R/C airplanes and such. I don't think that the stuff they sell in hobby stores would be right for this project, (I could be wrong, I often am).
What brand or type do you recommend and where do you get it from?

P_D, I get my epoxy and the micro balloons from RAKA ...I buy it by the gallon for various projects...they do sell small batches...you would need(from their website) 8oz of 127 resin, 4 oz of 606(slow set 25+min) or 610(fast set 10 min) and a couple oz of phenolic micro balloons...I use their non-blushing hardener but that is for full sized projects...the stuff from the hobby stores is the basically the same type of stuff................

p.s. with RAKA, you mix 2parts resin to 1 part hardener...then add the balloons till it is about stiff peanut butter consistency...the ratios(resin/hardener) need to be pretty darn close for best results.............mj

I've posted this on a number of similar topics. I like filling with Bondo epoxy filler used for auto repair. It sticks inplace and doesn't fall out. It sands smooth. It also accepts epoxy resin. I've had some wood fillers cause epoxy resin to stay sticky over the filler. I had to remove the resin and filler and start over. No such problems with Bondo. I've used it on the Squidget and a couple of boats and used it again on the PT I'm building.

I guess we will see how it works out, I used titebond 2 and redcedar sawdust. If it doesnt pour tomorrow I will try sanding it.
