Greetings from TD newbie in NorCal

Hi All-

I've been lurking on the site for a while now gaining valuable knowledge from the TD elders. First post to say hello and ask a couple of questions. Many thanks again for providing a great resource to learn about building a TD.

First, a little background, I had a guy build a 5x10 TD with Al siding and rear barn doors. He used a 2800# axle, 2x2" ladder frame and 1" steel for the cabin. His welding skills are very good. Finish and trim, however, are far from being good.

Here are a couple of shots from the rear before I did too much.

The plan for the trailer is to keep it simple. We cook a lot when camping so I focused on the galley more than the cabin. I'll post some pictures of the current state when I make a bit more progress.

I've got a few questions for the group:
1- For inside the cabin, I plan on using birch paneling. Has anyone upholstered the front area where your heads are? My thinking was some sort of thin carpeting or thick sofa-like material to make it a bit more comfortable if you hit your head...
2- The galley hinge currently is two 3" hinges welded to the door and frame. Over this, there is a plastic strip screwed down, presumably to provide weather resistance. It looks like a serious kludge to me. What is the best solution to replace this?

Cheers,

Ron

Welcome to the greatest collection of people you will ever meet. You wouldn't happen to be towing that little trailer with a red Jeep would you? We both work in Davis and I saw a new looking teardrop parked behind a red Jeep on Poleline road the other day on my way to work.

Hi Phooey- Not my trailer as it has been in the garage since I got it last October. We live off Poleline Rd. I hope to have the trailer our on the road by early May.

Hi Doug- I would love to get up to Shasta, Lake Siskiyou is one of our favorite campgrounds. Unfortunately, if that's Mother's Day weekend, we won't be able to make it.

Cheers,

Ron

Actually, the Dam Gathering is not Mother's Day weekend, that is not until mid-may. The Gathering is actually the last weekend in April thru May 1st. That is, of course, unless your wife or mother has her own special mother's day? Check out http://www.teardrops.net/damgathering.html for the gathering. This will be our first at the Dam, but we have camped several times with a number of the NorCal folk attending and I highly recommend!

However, Doug's recommend is all you really need! ;)
