Built in sink and stove?????

Postby NCOretiredEd » Thu Apr 07, 2011 6:56 pm

Are they worth the money instead of just having a wash bowl and Coleman gas stove?

Not to many of us...I had a tear with a sink...only stored stuff in it. I use a Coleman and a dishpan. Doug

You'll get a million answers to this one, all convinced they are right. It all depends on your style. I know folks who think the stove and sink are the most important parts of the galley, and they are right, for them.

Not for me. I wanted the counter space for cooking, and I love it.

I like my stove hooked up on the outside

so cooking grease doesn't get on the inside, and I don't want a dedicated space for a sink, when I only use it for a few minutes a day. We much prefer the two dish pan version of washing up, and a tiny sink is great for washing hands, but not so much for dishes. My water tank under the counter works best for me, that I love!

So for me, not worth the money, but for others, they have just as good an argument that it is.

sink

Postby mvperini » Thu Apr 07, 2011 9:52 pm

the concerns that i had about putting a sink in the teardrop was putting in a water source, with my luck i did not want 7 gallons of water over my feet and then have it leak, also we do all of our cooking on a side table and a side mounted BBQ

Thanks for all the suggestions. Myself, having a built in sink and stove would be quite a luxury while camping and the thought of a mobile wash basin and stove seems more practical but being practical is not always the way to go so asking questions helps with my decision making.

We have a a three burner Atwood cook top with a SS cover and sink with sprayer faucet we we also have a 6gal hot water heater. Nancy does use an electric fry pan on a table for some of the messier cooking tasks and for when we have shore power. Our feeling is that unless you love cooking and that is part of your camping experience i.e. dutch oven cooking, that meal prep and clean up should be no more difficult than necessary, and ideally the same effort as at home.

Excellent answer!

I like a built in, but I think for those that don't, that's okay too!

Waiting for "someday" will leave you on your deathbed wondering why you didn't just rearrange your priorities and enjoy the time you had, instead of waiting for a "better" time to come along...

...we hadda sink in our first tear and like Doug, only used it to store stuff...we only use the galley to store stuff and prefer to do all our cooking and other kitchen chores on an aux table................
