Not sure what resources you have in CR but here 1/8 Baltic Birch is plentyful and not expensive.
Maybe these folks can point you in the right direction if your local lumber yards can't.

There are lots of disadvantages to living in So. Cal. but one of the isn't a lack of suppliers locally.
