Tattoo Stories?

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

Postby Toms_Strat » Wed Feb 01, 2006 9:22 pm

Interesting reads.
I have my share. Got them in places I could hide em if work dictated like alot of others. Each one I got in different countries while serving in the Navy. Each one has a story, maybe another at some pint when the midlife crisis can't be fed by a new trailer... :)

Myself, I have 4 tattoos, all during my time in the USAF. In fact, I have one on each forearm, old school military style.

Dang! You got 4 forearms???

Funny, never thought of it that way. 4 forearms, man that would mean 4 arms, or really big "Popeye" forearms, which would probably mean I could build faster!

Just goes to show, the written word is different than the spoken word.

Just to clarify, 1 tatoo on each forearm, 1 on bicep, and 1 on shoulder

I have two myself- a grizzly bear on right bicep and a Celtic tribal on the left bicep to show my Irish pride. I'm considering getting another one this year as a birthday present to myself. Do you think a tat of a teardrop would be to over the top? If I can find some nice artwork of a tear I just might consider it.

Tatoo Stories?

Postby westexan » Sat Feb 04, 2006 6:33 pm

As a single mom of 2 teenage girls that graduated from high school in the late 90's - just when the navel piercings and tattoos were getting popular in the Oklahoma panhandle - I really walked a fine line on the discipline and put the responsiblity for the girls' decisions squarely on their shoulders. The oldest gal had no problem - she didn't like either. Her younger sister got a belly ring - without letting me know in advance. I wasn't pleased about the ring, but I was very happy about her reasoning.
You see, she had made the decision that she WAS going to get one or the other and after considering the consequences, determined that if she didn't like either one, the belly ring would be the easiest to remove. Some battles the kids just have to fight for themselves.

But, what really bothers me about tattoos are how the prison and street gangs use them. I began working in a small county jail about a year ago. We constantly have to watch for improvised tatooing equipment and supplies - and for inmates with gang ties.

I have both of my daughters names in kanji (Chinese/Japanese symbols). I know what they mean and am proud of them! The first is Bright Beautiful Child and the second is Blessed beautiful. (Emiko/Akimi). My wife is half Japanese. I'll post a picture later.

Never got into the long hair or earrings...no eyeshadow or mascara either...
Figured I have enough scars for "identifying marks " w/o tattoos..
During my army years, many guys were into tattoos..about half of them a black panther crawling up their arm, leaving bloody claw marks.
...Not too much originality there !
I have had the handlebars since about 1972..most of my friends and my grandkids wouldn't recognize me w/o it ! ...Don't know if my son would remember me as before....LOL

Been inked 5 times and all were custom works. Each one has it's meaning. Most of them revolve around finding inner peace with myself. A cross with the rising son on my left upper arm, a beaded Indian arm band with feathers on my right upper arm and yes it wraps all the way around, a wolf sitting high and proud on top of a mountain and a soaring eagle flying high above the tree lines (each side of my chest) and last but not least, a tribal between my shoulder blades.
I did take my daughter, on her 18th birthday, out to get her first one of two inks. It was a bright sun on her upper left shoulder blade. Her nickname is Sunshine.

Woody,

Variation on the theme;
I once knew a woman that had "MOM" tattooed on the back of her neck, but from where I was sittin, I always though it said "WOW".

I just stumbled across this and thought I'd share it with you...

Mike...

Endorphins are a class of neurotransmitters produced by the body and used internally as a pain killer.

This class of compounds are similar in their action to opiates, attaching to some of the same receptors in the brain. They are a strong analgesic, and give a pervasive sense of happiness. They are proteins, and due to their many different types and their complexity, I cannot list them here. The release of endorphins lowers the blood pressure, a major indicator in heart disease, and has even been implicated in the fight against cancer.

Endorphins are best known to those who exercise a lot, and give rise to what is known as the 'runner's high'. Their release is caused by all pain, including that caused by chillies. Thus a dose of hot chillies will cause the release of these compounds, without any permanent harm.

Some people find the 'rush' from endorphins addictive, and may exercise excessively, have many tattoos or piercings, or even deliberately cut themselves. I think chillies are by far the safest, easiest, and tastiest way to get an endorphin response.

One other type of food that is known to stimulate the release of endorphins into the system is chocolate! So, if you do not want to get a tattoo eat heaps of chocolate
Cheers
Paul
I hate to say it, but this is based on fact not fiction. :?
