A Newbie from Arizona!

Postby kmesaaz » Fri Apr 08, 2011 7:58 pm

Hi--So glad I found this site! Recently retired single woman, travelling with a dog that hates, hates, hates the truck! Hates my campers, too! Hates bicycles! Probably hates anything with wheels. But, I digress.
My newly purchased teardrop is my 4th camper in as many years. But, this should be the last. I just couldn't handle the popups and the Aliner by myself. This little camper is a delight! When I can, I will post a picture. It is so CUTE!

For now, I need to familiarize myself with the "stuff" which is included with this teardrop. My other campers didn't have all these electronic devices. I guess I need to search this site for a "checklist" of sorts to make certain that I know what I need and know what I am doing.

Looking forward to learning from you folks! Karen

Welcome Karen. That teardrop will be a lot of fun. There are some really fine teardrop and small trailer people you will meet at gatherings. You have plenty of them in your part of the country.

Thanks for the kind words

Postby kmesaaz » Tue Apr 12, 2011 8:04 pm

Really, thanks. Now, I am completely new to a teardrop and to a camper with "stuff"--microwave, stove, oven, am/fm/cd player with the tallest antenna I have ever seen, a cd/tv something or other, sink, lights inside and out, power outlets everywhere, a fuse box...."stuff"

The teardrop is new, I drove to Indiana and picked it up, the very proud, excited builder/owner did his best to fill me in, but I am really at a loss. If I hadn't read somewhere a sad tale about needing to be grounded I would just plug it in and see what happens. On top of this, it was made known to me that I need to label the switches in the fuse box and have additional fuses just in case. In case what?

So, do I just run an extension cord and power up? What risks am I running? Any suggestions are appreciated. We are going on our first trip over Easter weekend and need to be prepared.

I would probably call or email the builder. However, I cannot think of anything that plugging it in would hurt. If the ground isn't wired, it would be best to know that before you took off on your trip.
