The Price Of Used Trailers

Postby duke3522 » Sat Apr 09, 2011 7:11 am

I have been looking around most of North Eastern Indiana for a used chassis for my TT, and maybe its the economic times, but most all most all of the used trailers I looked at were very near the price of new models. I have even seen a few above the current price of similar new miles. Strange to me.

Every used trailer I have purchased has come from a pawn shop, try calling around to the larger ones. The upside of this is also that it assures the trailer is not stolen since they must report serial numbers to the police. I much prefer it to meeting a stranger in a parking lot somewhere or going to their house with cash and trusting I won't get robbed.

I thought of pawn shops actually, and proof once again that great minds do think alike. Tried all the ones within reasonable driving distance and no luck. I think I am settled on a TSC model anyway. Since I stand 6'7", and pork in about 440 these days, its them worried about getting robbed. And if they would still be so foolish, I carry a can of 2+ million Scouvel unit pepper spray that will drop a mama grisly! :applause:

I hadn't thought about a pawn shop, but if you think about it, it does solve quite a few problems. As Blotto already said, you can be reasonably assured it isn't stolen, and those of us in states that require them will get a clear title. Thanks for that tip!

I found a dealer who will order a 5x10 with tube frame, 14" wheels and fenders. No deck or rail for $650 if that helps.

Asking and getting are two different things. there are people on Craig's List asking ridiculous prices for things. These people are not selling for those prices however.

I have been given 4 ~~

paid $60.00 for a tiny all aluminum one~~

and paid $250 for a nice 5x8 flat bed cargo.

Don't look at the dealers and car lots cruise the alleys and see what is setting (and setting~~ and setting) in side yards. Then screw up a bit of courage and knock on the door. It is amazing what might happen and the worst is they might tell ya "NO" !

I stopped intent on buying this one ( real cheap) and the fellow said and I quote

" Get the damn thing out of here I an tired of looking at it. It's yours !"

No it won't make a tiny trailer but it will make a damn fine 1/2 scale caboose. Double axle frame with electric brakes. Water tank, tub ,stool grey and black water tanks, some surviving cabinets, windows and top mounted A/C unit,a 2 way fridge , and lots and lots of salvagable items all for the cost of a smile.
Growing older but not up !
