truck campers pop up

General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

A Tacoma would be nice. And Wimperdink even posted a pic of one in this thread. But even the long bed standard pickup would do. As a teardropper that understands maximizing small spaces, you could probably make a very nice setup in one of those.

...just to comment on the cheap "plugin" fridges...they will absolutely kill a battery in about 8 hours...there are pricey models from Engels, Waeco, Edgestar and others that can go a weekend without recharge...as I said, they are pricey, in the 6-800 dollar range..............

Yeah, I guess Ill just have to get used to diaper wipe suv baths (except this time they will be diaper wipe P/U baths). But maybe someone will sell me a truck camper that will fit the truck for a GREAT deal? I know deep down that you all are right! The most cost effective way to do what I need is the truck with the camper shell and do it REAL nice in there (sacrificing the shower and the look feeling of a REAL living space). But what if....?
I'm still gonna keep my eyes and ears open for a GREAT truck camper though. If it is GREAT enough it might be worth the big bucks for the convenience and luxury.
How does the second battery and the isolator work? and where do you put them? And, do they have a socket that you plug the fridge and the DVD player in?

madjack- I guess the good news for the expensive refrigerators that you mentioned is... I could later use the fridge in the teardrop and get more of my money worth out of it! I will start looking the ones you mentioned up on the web. Any preferences in brands are welcomed too (or places to buy them).

Years ago my wife's father had a Datsun pickup and a Starcraft popup truck camper. I had to make a cut out on each side bottom of the camper for it to set over the wheelwells. Then a couple years later repair / hide all that so he could trade it in on a travel trailer. He never kept anything very long. Forget just how high it was, it only cranked up less than two feet as I recall. Bob

To add another idea. I live in town with a world reknowed medical center with many long term patients and family members.

Have you considered renting a room from a nearby house, ideally within walking distance. No parking fees, bed, shower and kitchen facilities?

Cost may be a little higher then parking lot living. As a healthcare provider, your job is to provide support to your daughter. Sleep deprevation clouds anybodies judgement and coping abilities.

Inquire with social services for cost effective housing.

WOW Thanks stevem50. You know that may be what I have to do. I've been surfing the web and some of the truck campers that will be 6" higher than a Toyota Tacoma are REALLY EXPENSIVE!!! I did really have my heart set on "the WORKS" though. But...
