Buy the best speed for the money. They are all pretty much the same. I am completely 803.11N in my house. If you have a mixture of speeds, the slowest tends to bring down the whole network to it's level, as I understand it.

I have all my devices on the network, and my home theater and garage audio system is tied into my network, too. I have all of my music on my 27-inch iMac desktop in iTunes, so I can hear my music all over the house, and control it from my iPhone or iPad using an app called "Remote."

My stuff is all Apple, but you can do the same setup with other PCs and networks using the same software I use.

What he said, except none of my stuff is Apple, I use a mixture of pc's and Western Digital media players connected to my theatre equipment- DLNA rocks literally :)

Linksys (Cisco) or netgear are common and both work well in my experiences.

I have an inexpensive netgear router which has worked fine for me...there are several protocols out there(type A, B. G and the newest one, N) the N is the newest and is backward compatible with the rest...I have cable internet...the router plugs in between the cable modem and my desktop PC and only took a few minutes to setup...be sure and enable the password encryption or your neighbor(or others) could steal bandwidth and download porn, movies, music or do other stuff you wouldn't want attributed to your IP address...I think the netbook a good choice and would get the 10" version...keep in mind, most of these come with a built in netcam for such things as video chat...I would disable it or have a looooong talk with the kiddo about sending out video of herself, her room or????????

p.s. at her age, I would keep her off Facebook, Twitter and other such social networking sites...peer pressure at school can be bad enough but add in every kid in the world and it becomes that much worse.............mj
agreed, weve been having this conversation for about 3 years now. I think the book of faces has a minimum age, i know she looks at moms account frequently.. she is already monitored pretty close.
hmmm bandwidth.. maybe i should check and see if the neighbors have any I could pilfer before i buy a router???   i think this will go good.. thanks!!

I know this is probably more than you will want to do.... I was working when my oldest daughter would get home from school (middle school) I had my router set w/mac filtering to shut the internet off at 6pm to her computer. I did this to make sure she would go to bed on time and to make sure she did her homework first thing when she got home before the internet went off. It also made sure she didn't spend all her time on the computer and would spend some time outside playing.

Both models are way cool. Did you go with the 11-inch or the 13-inch model? For maximum coolness, I'd opt for the 11-inch if I had one.

Don't forget to mention that because of the solid state drive, the startup time is nearly instantaneous.

You are correct, and I have the 11 inch.

I have an acer 10" netbook with windows xp. I don't know what it does that others don't... but I can get wifi all over the place now that most give it for free (thank you for competition!!)..... even starbucks and macdonalds have thrown in the towel. It cost me under $300.00.... Arne

We've had an ipad 2 for about a week now. I've got to tell you, I have a laptop and desktop but this ipad is just way too cool. During the Apple keynote Steve Jobs said that it was a magical experience that he couldn't really explain until you had one in your hands. I now know what he meant. No one in the house can put it down. It's fast, clean, sharp and does everything my laptop does. For $60 bucks you can buy a bluetooth keyboard for it too but I don't think we'll need one. And the apps... "there's an app for that".. anything you want it to do and their either a few bucks or free and download in about 20 seconds. I foresee our computers suddenly getting very little use.
Trying an ipad in the store won't be too much of an issue but don't play with one for a day if you don't plan on buying. I kid you not.
Conform and be dull.

I take mine camping with me so I can review the days photos on a screen that's bigger than the camera screen. The battery life on netbooks is great too.

I also use it when traveling to connect to the network at work, and I'm quite pleased with everything it does.

My wifey got a 10.1 Acer free. They evidently have problems with screens going out. I replaced the screen in it. It's now my daughters. She loves it.

I'm not a big "apple" fan myself. I don't hate... I just don't participate with them.

My daughters Ipod still doesn't play music. It looses the play list. The itunes store drives me nuts. I don't want all my mp3s mutated into their file type.

I have a small Dell laptop that I'm pleased with.

I have (will sell) a 10.1 inch Asus Windows XP, and personally I find it too small.

I recently bought a Lenovo 12.5 inch Windows 7 and it really is great. It is much more in competition to the smaller skinny Macs. Very sexy unit.
