Name for our Tear "Vol-N-Tear"

Postby Jim Marshall » Tue Feb 07, 2006 11:26 pm

My wife Judy came up with a name for our new tear and since we live in Tennessee, I think it is a great name: Vol-N-Tear. Kinda play on words but hey, we like it.

Here is where we are on our build.

We are getting there, but slowly. Notice my name written in blood. Ouch
I started out with nothing and I still got plenty left.

Thanks fellers, I need all the encouragement I can get. I almost goofed, we have the first sheet of our outside 1/8 inch plywood on and I realized that I hadn't run our electrical for the tear. I am glad I thought of that before I had the whole thing covered.

Once I get the tear built, I will take it to a truck scale and have it weighed to see the weight of it.

So far we are looking good on budget, it looks like we will come in about the $1,000.00 mark for the completed tear. I did have a few 2x4s and a little scrap plywood and that has helped. I am keeping tabs on cost so maybe it will help someone else in their build. Thanks again fellers.

Mike, I was going to post the sketch I made of our tear's profile but I have so many notes and scribbling on it that I decided not to post it.
I started out with nothing and I still got plenty left.

That's okay, it looks like you have everything under control... except try not to do things out of order...

Is that tongue and groove cedar you are using for the ceiling? How do you like it?

Great !! A name, now it's really your baby!!! haha

I have some wood that was on hand in the "barn" (workshop) left over from my carpenter dad. So I've already looked at it thinking... hmmm... that could be used for the spars, or....

Glad to hear about your costs... I'm tired of people saying " you know, you can buy one from somewhere" Yeah, no offense but I don't have the $5k for that... or the satisfaction....

Hey Jim, That is a good name. It kind of fits last years team too. Remeber the Vandy game..... Vol-N-Tear..... Yep, that's a good one.

Your work and your progress look great. Let me guess, you're retired? If you are I'm jealous. 4 years and 5 months to go.. from today!!
