12V Air conditioner

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

12V Air conditioner

Some one pointed me to Instructables for all sorts of handy things you can do, complete with instructions. One that might work for a teardrop is the 12v AC Someone else can try it and report on its usefulness. I am just passing it and have nothing to do it with. If it does not work don't come yelling at me. :o
If it does work I will accept thank you gifts.

Dennis...I read the article and instructions...I was wondering why he didn't try using it with a piece of solid block ice in it rather than the cubes...block lasts a lot longer, especially the home made ones, not the ice chips frozen into a block. Fun idea! Doug

Throw any real humidity into the picture and forget it.

Blocks are hard to find in many areas. That was one reason I dumped the ice box in my trailer for a fridge.

I always forget about that Ira...out here, it's so dry in the summer that even the lizards pack a Chapstick. With humidity, it'd be like having a cold vaporizer running...nice clammy damp sheets in a tear!!! Doug

I still can't get over the fact that in the U.K. and other countries, they don't sell ANY ice.

Oh--so THAT'S why you guys drink your beer piss warm.

I made one of those instructables type ac units using a heater core from a car, I made mine with the icewater sealed inside the cooler and only the heater core outside. It had two computer fans on it to blow the air through, I found the cool air was overwhelmed by the solar heating from the windows.
I ended up making a backrest cooling coil that I attached to the back of the seat and pump the ice water through it with a 12v bait well pump, it works great and I can cruise with the windows down and be nice and cool. The guy I got that idea from on instructables uses a copper coil and says he has to put an intermitent switch on the pump as he will get too cold, he is a mailman in Texas.

Couldn't you make your own blocks of ice with a plastic (gal. or whatever size) milk carton with water and freeze your own?

Is there really such a thing as a 12V air conditioner?

One that's cost effective and puts out the same BTUs as its 120 VAC counterpart at a similar price (not 10X higher).
Everything I've ever seen is basically a swamp cooler, which is not an air conditioner...
