HF folding trailer

Well they can't carry everything !

I have extended 2 HF trailers and I used 2x2x3/16 wall and took it from the rear crossmember to 15" beyond the stock position.

On the first trailer I drilled and bolted all the crossmembers to the new center tube with grade #8 3/8" bolts. The other trailer I had welded.

It is worth the effort in added strength, peace of mind, and greatly improved road manners.

I have the harbor freight 1700 lb trailer and I also had it welded plus modified the tongue. I have 2" wide plate iron welded in the tongue channels for added strength.

I also replaced the 2 metal cross braces with a wooden cross brace and used the metal ones inside of the side frame for added strength per the kuffel creek manual.

The frame is an absolute rock now.

Excuse me? What's the problem with this board? I posted my FIRST comment on a thread and I was immediately attacked and now I need to be "watched"? I hope the mods do watch, so they can see how you all welcome newcomers.

Here ya go, mods, this was my "welcome" to T&TTT

Yeah what the egg man said GIT CERIOUS !

Ok well I did move my axle on Chubby. On the 10' body I have 4 foot to the rear and 6 foot in front of axle. 60/40 this is within a couple inches of Andrews balance sheet. I still had an ill handling little P.I.T.A. trailer.

The addition of the 15" inches of tongue made the difference for me. Chubby now has road manners and like I said is a breeze to back up.

It's always good to have examples where things didn't work out, so could you say (a) what the total trailer weight is and (b) what the tongue weight is. Tongue weight with the long tongue is fine, as it's easy to work out what it would have been with the short one.
