Anything to do with mechanical, construction etc

I agree that there are better roofs than EPDM....in STATIC buildings. However when installed over a severe radius such as Deryk or my own Vardo roof the options availabe in metal require many seams. I am sure that we can all agree that seams are the places leaks start. I also propose that rubber has the secondary bonus of flex. Since this instalation is on a structure that will move and shift considerably a little give may be a good thing.

Since the cost of materials was also a consideration in this build basic return on investment for this material represents a wise expendature of limited funds. The substrate he is installing over is much stronger than many residential roofing installations and there is little doubt that it will serve him well for many years.

I have a big piece of rubber membrane and plan to use it for me roof. It is black and was thinking there must be roof coatings made to go over an EPDM membrane. Maybe make it white or silver.

I talked with a manuf (cant remember the name but it was for the roll it on blue and cures to white...they sell it at the Ace hardware by me) that its not rated to go over wood but can go over rubber so I guess it could be painted white with that if I find the black too hot, but honestly my idea of camping doesnt involve camping on the serengetti lol ... I want tree line lol.

Price wise Blotto is right its not too expensive and the EPDM is pretty thick, and god forbid a tree falls on it Im gonna have extra for patches.

I'm interested in this topic since I'm building a cheap trailer. One material I found gets painted on top of the EPDM, and is white. http://www.epdmcoatings.com/

If you haven't purchased the EPDM yet, you can get "white on black" material. 18.5' x 5' 40mil for $95. For a 4' wide teardrop, this would be great. http://www.flatroofsolutions.com/White- ... e-p-9.html

Or, do you go with something like a rubber based pool paint? http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R ... ogId=10053

Any of these will be a lot quicker than fiberglass/epoxy, and probably cheaper as well.

The real question is , why would you install a roof with a finite lifetime ??? If you're going to go cheap on something it shouldn't be the roof .... I say this after having had some small limbs go completely through the "rubber" roof on my Commercial TT...

Agreed! Roofing shingles have gotten batter but they used to be good for 25 years more or less. If I own my Vardo in 19 years I will slather on the liquid EPDM and be good for another 20 years( could be longer by then) and I will be in my early 80's lol.

Hmnnn...check your math...you couldn't be a day over 22! Keep up the good work, just checked out your build thread and it looks nearly campable..You don't let any grass grow under your feet.

Will you be at Pennsic this year, I have some questions about it.

Ok, Ive read they use talcom powder so it doesnt stick to itself so I scrubbed the EPDM membrane with dish detergent and a soft bristle brush and there still is a light powdery look to it... do I need to remove all of it for it to adhere and how? Or is it just how the rubber looks when its dry?
