Newbie in South Eastern Washington

Postby egjacks » Tue Apr 26, 2011 7:41 pm

Hey guys. I have been a long time lurker on this site and I am looking forward to talking to you all, and not just hiding in the shadows. I am just starting a build. the harbor freight trailers were on sale and I finally talked the wife into the idea. So I brought home a brand new 1800# 4x8 trailer today. I think the build will turn out a bit like a cross between a teardrop and a benroy, although from my readings and lurkings here and elsewhere no plan survives completely intact. So we will see what happens.

Anyways, my wife and I have been tent camping for a couple of years. This last trip, in February (only time we could both get the time off) to the Oregon coast ended in a hotel at night and snowy beach combing during the day. We only managed one night in the tent. We found out the next day that it had gotten down to single digits and were weren't prepared for it. My better half has decided that having walls and insulation is a good idea. ;)

thanks for the welcome,

I am looking forward to not tent camping very often anymore, or at least having the choice. A tear will be a BIG step up in that direction.

Howdy from Wenatchee, You would be surprised how little insulation that you really need. There is none in our Mobi and we were pretty toasty when it got down to 18. It will be good to see another Eastern Washington trailer on the road.

Welcome to the forum Eric :shake hands: .
If you have the time there will be a teardrop gathering along the Columbia Gorge, Memorial Day weekend at the fair grounds in Stevenson, Washington.
It's just off Hwy 14 at 710 SW Rock Creek Drive, Stevenson, WA.
Come by and check out some teardrops & get some first hand ideas. :D Danny

We are from Spokane and we are starting our build as well. It would be pretty cool to get a trip together when we are finished. I like the Levenworth area.

It would be awesome to have some camping buddies in the area, that sounds like lots of fun! My wife has never been to Leavenworth.

As for the gathering, that also sounds like lots of fun, I will have to see if we can get the time off and come down for a day or two. How big is the gathering expected to be?

--Pictures, I have taken a few pictures so far, they are not all that exciting yet, I took one of the boxes the trailer came in; I was going to title that one "teardrop in embryo" then a couple pics of the parts spread out over my garage.
Then my wife said I had to finish the fish tank stand that I was building in the living room. Something about company coming over... Ah well, if the wife is happy, we all get to be happy. The fish tank is almost set up, just have to make a cat-proof hood to fit over the top and then some cabinet doors. then back to teardrop.

On a more exciting note, my wife and I were at Walmart last night wandering around, and she found some stuff in the seasonal section: little cheap plastic plates, glasses pitchers, etc. and was starting to think about camping stuff for the teardrop, then she found some pot holders and towels with a Lemon theme. She was like "these would be great for the teardrop!" so I responded that we would have to name the tear "The Lemon Drop". She stopped, her eyes got real big, and she says "Really?!! Could we?!!!" She was verily smitten with the name, and I think its gonna stick.

So we have now named our soon-to-be Teardrop, the "Lemon Drop" :D 8) :D

It's the first annual gathering at this location. Our traditional "Spring Fling" was moved to August and now is "Summer Daze" to try and avoid inclement weather. That gathering had up to 100 people in attendance. I have no idea how many will or will not travel to this location which is historically windy because of it's proximity to the Columbia Gorge.

Hay Egjacks

I think Lemon Drop is a great name. Better than cough drop.

I like to carry real plates with me. Found some nice Correll stuff at the DI here. So much the past year I have changed what I have in the house. But it does help if a person is not to picky on everything matching. The old plates I have I been using since the late 70s.

Maybe some day I can get up that way for a campout or just traveling. Might have to visit the farm at Connell some day.
