I like flexible. I have a single burner outside on my patio and do most of my stir frying, bacon, etc (pretty much all but boiling water) outside year round (wx here is mild and I hate cleaning up and lingering cooking smells inside).
My single burner looks similar to this:

Three knobs control the center ring and two semicircular outside rings. Lottsa heat when needed, and just a little when that will do. Not pretty, not light, but functional and flexible.
Easy to set up, easy to clean up, and a lot more flexible and powerful than a small range top.
Cheers,
Gus
