Teardropping calls...........

Postby NCOretiredEd » Thu Apr 28, 2011 8:17 pm

I have been on a few of these routes, now being retired with plenty of time, I hope, taking some of these trips to see some of my own country is a calling. With the world situation questionable including right here at home, I say, live now.

I know what you mean. I'm making an effort to get out more this year. But I must say it hurts to fill the tank. My farthest planned trip is out to the Minden Gathering. Gas alone will run about 500 bucks. That use to be what it cost to fly across the country.
Back in 1987 when our daughter was 9 we went to The Badlands , Custer State park, Mt. Rushmore and Deadwood. All the way out there we kept seeing large groups of Bikers heading west. At the time we had a Mini van with a pop up and were on our way to Yellowstone. There were thousands of Bikers everywhere. I had never heard of the Sturgis Bike rally. I know what it is now. Stay away from there is mid August! It's a beautiful area and well worth the visit but it's just way to crowded then.
Make sure to post up some pictures of your travels and enjoy the USA!

Don't worry about the bikers. Just wach your wallet around the Corn Palace and Wall Drug.  Beautiful area for sure.

We rode through Sturgis on a bicycle tour that time of year a while back. My ears are still ringing from the thousands of unmuffled motorcycles that passed us! They were nearly without fail friendly toward our little pedalin' group--encouraging us on the climbs, cheering us on the descents, friendly waves when passing. It was really kind of fun aside from the racket. (they were tough to share campgrounds with sometimes though--partying and noisy a bit later than I might've preferred!)
