Yes, with 54" you have a lot of comfort already built in... adding a dropped floor will only add to your level of comfort...

If you were going to make the Weekender taller, would it be easier to extend the flat front section ... and the sides and hatch ...

or would it be easier to build a 3' tall inside section and then overlap that with a 2' deep "outside section" that raised 6'' or 8''(on scissor lifts, etc) when you stopped, opened a couple of latches, and turned a crank a few times?

Seems to me that if you shorten and narrow the dimensions of the lower 'half' by 3/16'' and then lengthen and widen the dimensions of the 'upper' half by another 3/16'' you should have clearance to do this, and you could weatherstrip the gap(s) to keep out drafts and bugs.
Yes, no, maybe? Is a grand total of 3/8'' enough "slip tolerance" for this to work?

It might be possible, depending on how good an engineer you are, to make it so that you didn't HAVE to raise the roof to use the bed, but could do so in a short, easy maneuver if you wanted extra interior height.

It looks like you want to gain an extra 6 to 8 inches of headroom. I would not build a fancy mechanism for that. I would just add the extra height onto the side panels, and then build as normal.

If you are building an insulated version of the weekender, it's easy to add the height. An insider furring strip with the plywood joint meeting in the middle of the furring strip.

That's exactly what I'll be doing on the Lil' Diner!!!

On thing that has been a bugaboo for me is furring strips are not the 3/4" thick I thought they were... I was mixing furring strips with 3/4" and had to do some 'finessing' to get it to work....

If you could build a teardrop that many people on this board would like to do, what would it be?

I've already done the "build it fast" with the Squared Weekender
We've toyed around with "cheap" and we know we are in the $800 to $1000 range.
Fancy... your cedar stripped tear is a really tough act to beat.
As for teardrops with tables, I've got the Lil Diner in the works...
so what the next niche that'll have us all hitting your webpage every night to see what we'll be building???

Well, No one here is average or, we wouldn't love Tiny Trailers
As for a project, I have a Snow bear utility trailer, as does my best friend, Ron....So, some kind of POD to slide into the trailer. I was thinking about a version of the weekender. Now that you pose the posibilities of the "round-ender" or "slide-ender" (does that sound like a name entry??), I can't decide.
I would try to construct it with tool use limited to portable's. No fancy joinery, or techniques..Strictly lo-tech!
I don't need another Teardrop, so, if I can't get Ron interested, I don't know.
I run into this problem all the time, My desire to create things surpasses the ability to sell or use them myself.
My wife "needs" a new boat. So, that will be one project. But, I love multi-tasking!

I'm suprised that no one has noticed the teardrop of the future. It's hovering right in Mike's avatar. Self propelled, no wheels... the "Hover Tear" right out of the pages of a George Jetson episode.
