Time to say 'Hi'

Postby 2ndmile » Thu May 12, 2011 9:46 am

I have been lurking here for about 2 years and dreaming. My wife and I are tent campers and backpackers. We are starting to do more driving trips and have planned a 3 week trip out west in August. As we discussed the possibility of setting up and breaking it down the tent every day we decided it was time to build.

Planning on building a Kit, pretty close to original. I have plans from Grant, an original frame from Dan Sutton, and orders with several companies. Paul (our UPS guy) is as excited as I am!

Looking forward to asking questions and getting involved. Having a community like is a real confidence boost for a newbie first timer.

you are going to have so much fun! you will also enjoy your trips so much more without having the set up and take back down to worry about.

i have only used my tear twice now, but i know the last time i just sat and watched the tent campers and thought to myself i am so glad thats not me anymore.

welcome!

p.s. not that there is anything wrong with it.

Welcome Brian,

I know you will enjoy the outdoors even more when you have your teardrop. We are getting one by Labor Day and can't wait. Met some folks at Crystal Beach last weekend, really nice with some really cool ideas.

Hey Gage,
I tried to leave a comment on your site, but the codes would not match.
Anyway, great job on the site, and the trailer. :applause:

Gage... Man, I have looked at all your pictures 3 times over the past couple months. I will definitely be referring to them as I go through my build. Learning from the best!

I do have a question for you specifically. On my kit frame I have the original 1 3/4" inch screw-down couplers. Dan Sutton said it was in great condition BUT he said that typically he welds a modern version over top of the screw-down, just for piece of mind. Do you have any thoughts on this. I saw you comment on one of these couplers in another thread.
