Interior cabinets on old TDs and how many now have them

Postby DiabloCanyon » Fri May 13, 2011 11:14 pm

Was looking at the hardbound book from Gibbs-Smith on TDs and also some of the old design drawings from Popular Mechanics- doesn't seem like a lot of the older TDs (from the 40s-50s) had interior cabinets at all. Is this the case?

Also, do most folks have interior cabinets in their homemade TDs nowadays? I am putting in a small one in my (first-time) project but just curious for the future. It seems like cabinets are staple now.

Thanks,
Tom

We just have shelves rather than cabinets. They have a large lip so things stay put and the lack of doors keeps the weight down

My 1948 teardrop has two storage cabinets in the cabin. Each is about 24" X 24" X 24" with a lift up aluminum door.

Lots of space, but not exactly convenient for use

I had a '49 4x8 Kit and all it had in the interior was a shelf, maybe 10" deep with a 3" lip on the front of it with an aluminum trim strip, no doors. On the front end...some wooden slats for magazine storage. Doug
