Motorola Droid X users - Look Here

Well folks if you own a Motorola Droid X - I have something that is absolutely amazing. The past few Days, I was surfing through some Youtube vids and came across this

Connect a Bluetooth Keyboard to an Android Phone
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aj9qC3oKcZU

So I went out and got an apple wireless Bluetooth keyboard to help me type and take notes on either my phone or tablet . Actually, with a quick search you will find that most bluetooth keyboards will work. I went with Apple because i could get one at a discount. – the app worked like a charm – very easy to pair up and get it working. Then I ran across this:

Real HDMI Android App in Action on the DROID X
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eA0bkOy-7n4

While searching, I did find a free app - Xternal Display (free in android market) does the same thing and same concept

So here it is: the whole set up –

Yes – that is a 32 inch display you are seeing!. I’m posting this via the Droid X right now. Now my big ole fingers can use a larger keyboard! My phone and Tablet has just becomes like a fully functional computer - sort of ;) Is this practical - could you use something else - like a netbook and get the same results?

Sure - but the coolness factor just isn't the same

Amazing

I use the iPhone and an Apple Bluetooth Keyboard, in a similar fashion...

I've never checked to see if I can hang an external monitor on it.

But I now have an Acer Iconia A500 tablet running the Android Honeycomb OS. I'm going to try an pair my apple bluetooth keyboard with it.

But the thing I really want to try using is the HDMI port. Still have to get an HDMI cable though.

Here's what the Iconia A500 looks like... But it's wi-fi only... so I am depending on the campgrounds to have wi-fi. Otherwise I am going to have to learn some of Scott's tricks, using the 3G from the phone.

Hope you don't mind me changing the subject slightly, but, since several of you know a lot more about phones than I do, I have a question. Can a phone with a data plan be used as internet connection for a computer? To be more specific I want to go with boost mobile and one of there smart phones and there cheapest data plan ($25 a month) and then get rid of internet at home and an work, it would save me about 50 bucks a month, but have heard some say it can't be done others say it can.

The short answer is yes. It depends on the phone and the provider - there are some hacks that allow tethering of a smart phone as a modem. However, be warned! For example, the data rates are being monitored by the cell company. Verizon can tell if a phone is being tethered to a computer via the IP address made the connection - then they will charge you $275.00 early disconnect fee and then shut you off for good. If your data plans allows for it - then go for it - I have unlimited data plan for my phone so I can surf the web with no restriction - the wireless keyboard helps. I also had a blackberry that I tethered to a laptop, computer, and netbook to use as a mobile connection on the road. It's that download times will be limited

Doesn't the unlimited data packages allow tethering? I thought that being unlimited they (the phone company) didn't care what I did with it. I was more or less wondering if it was even possible. I guess I will have to take a closer look and see if boost allows it. Also if it is allowed what is the speed I can expect compared to the 10meg connection I have now?

Not always! Be sure to check first. There are many forums that can help you with making the connection - all you need is the phone and the carrier. Check first to see if your phone capable first
