Alice-Dave, so good to hear from you.

Yes, I went to Mexico again this last winter. Caught fish. Ate fish. Drank Margaritas. Spoke a lot of Spanish. Thanks for asking.

How's your trailer?

trailers good; and so is my little yanmar on tractor by net; ... hummmm ....are you stalking me?

I like pouring 1/2 a cold beer in an icy margerita at 3 pm on a Mexican beach when the sand gets too hot to walk bare footed on; find a choice spot under shade of a palm frond cabana, watch the breakers roll in ... some chicha scenry .... and nibbleing on some fresh cut salsa on tacitos and fresh pinapple ... ah!

what type if fish and how was it prepared?

Mostly sailfish (pez vela), some sierra and some cocineros. (See photo to left. I caught those three one morning by 9:30. The last one was the longest at 7 ft. 4. The first one was the shortest and fought hardest.)

Ceviche and pan fried fillets.

It's "chichis." Yes, always a plus.

Negra Modelo.

Prem - When you did your Featherlite, did you install the side door and the door's window or did it come from Featherlite? My trailer came with the windowless door, and it looks like it was something that Featherlite purchased from a supplier and not something they fabricated themselves. I'm thinking about installing a window in the door, and would like to know what is under the sheet metal before I pick a window size and start cutting.....

vreihen,

Mine came with no side door. I wanted to put in a real RV door with screen and deadbolt. I got one and had to cut off almost a foot from the bottom to get it to fit. It turns out that all the model 1610s come with the door pre-framed, as I found out when I pulled off the original waferboard (OSB) on the inside. The frame was slightly oversize for the RV door, so I shimed it from the inside with wood.

Your door is a little wider, fitting the framed-in door opening exactly. It is (most likely) a solid waferboard (OSB) door. You could build yourself a new door that's insulated, or you could glue on some foam insulation and perimeter wood to the inner side and panel over it. You can put in any kind of small RV window that will fit, depending on the depth of the trim ring.

New RV doors with screens are extremely expensive these days. I got mine for free from a buddy who took it out of a nearly-new motorhome (on an insurance claim) because the bottom was dented and punctured. That was the section I needed to cut off anyway.

Good :QM

They probably consider something you can stand up in is a waste.. Teardrops or cool little trailers. But to me they are not much more then a small tent.. Ever tried changing cloths laying down with a couple foot of space above you? Not for me..Heck I'd rather be in my tent since its got more room.

Seems to me that a few people will try to make a "fundamental religion" out of just about any pet, hobby, camping equipment or even brand of soda pop, or even brand of whisky. (I know a guy whose main dedication and "outreach" is Veganism. Can't even eat honey. Stolen from sentient bees.)

You're right. There's a point when a tiny travel trailer (round or squared off) comes close to being a coffin-like sleeping space on wheels. 4-wide has a large "congregation."

The best 4-wide I've ever seen has gull-wing doors. It's awesome. Perfect for newly weds!

Apparently some believe that the trailers are more important than the people. After attending the same gathering for years, I had to get a larger trailer so I could camp with both of my daughters at the same time. After driving more than 400 miles, the organizer told me I was not allowed to camp with my friends and had to park away from the group. Due to this discrimination, I with not attend this gathering again.

I'm going to miss those guys (and gals).

I have experienced exactly the same thing and responded in the exact same way that you did.

I agree with you: It's about the people.

The problem is that the founder named it tearjerkers and not something more inclusive that wasn't prone to dogmatists defending the traditional, true, rounded, rear galley, 4x4x8 faith. (One fellow I know who had a T@B was also made to leave what he renamed a "tear jerks gathering" because his trailer wasn't "traditional.")

So I'm guessing you bought a Element travel trailer? They seem very expensive from what I've seen online. like 30-50k... :?
