Name of grey, sticky, putty tape?

I may actually get the metal skin on my TTT soon. I have some corner edge trim and will need "that grey putty tape" that goes underneath the trim to seal the corners.

What is it's official name?
Where can you get it at the best price?
And can it be had in different widths?

Its butyl tape.

Buytle rubber tape and grey mastic putty tape are not the same. Not sure which one you want or need, perhaps a visit to the RV place is in order to see the products first hand wether or not you buy there. I have found on more than one ocasion the camper dealers price to be comparable to internet prices, Tax is usually less than shipping and you get instant gratification.

We don't have a lot of RV dealers around here. As to the butyl and mastic thing....what is the difference?

In my trim application I'm using an oddball trim. It is not a standard "camper corner trim". It is a plastic extruded product that has a cross section that is real simular. Whatever sealant I use it will have to work well with sticking to plastic.

Butyl tape is a generic term used by glaziers. The two aren't the same, but if you walk into any glass shop and ask for butyl tape, you'll get the putty stuff that you asked for in the first post.

In my trim application I'm using an oddball trim. It is not a standard "camper corner trim". It is a plastic extruded product that has a cross section that is real simular. Whatever sealant I use it will have to work well with sticking to plastic.

Depending on the plastic, (polyethelene for example) nothing sticks to it permanently. RTV silicone seems to work best.
You'll need to try a test sample to make sure that your extruded stuff will allow the tape to adhere.

Found some of the grey stuff (2" wide) at Home Depot.....starting to like HD.

I think this trim is the same material that the old Hot Wheels toy car track is made of. Matter of fact, that is what we jokingly call this track at work. It's actually a track for narrow assembly line belts.....made in Germany by Bosch. I'll test some using the butyl putty and RTV.

Thanks to my loose material figuring skills, I'll have plenty of scrap to test on.
