What are the things you wish you had or miss by using a teardrop camper. I'm asking cause I'm trying to finalize my design and want it to be the best it can be. I'm also interested in the challenge of building "it" into my design and the hope that I can come up with something different, new, and interesting. Also i'm sure this subject has come up before but i'm sure every time someone builds a teardrop they come up with something new, something they forgot, and something they wish they could have done.

You sound like you're downgrading from a large RV, not upgrading from a tent like most builders. Not much to be missed from tent camping.

Going from RV to TD , I miss the Cheap Poor quality materials the RVs are made from , the Greedy dealers who charged a fortune for even the simplest of repairs or maintenance, The RV manufacturers who always blame any problems on you ... the RV appliances that only work for a short time before needing to be replaced at 10 times the cost of regular appliances... the extremely HEAVY weight of RVs, and the resulting very low cargo capacity ... and the poor gas mileage towing these beasties...
Guess I don't miss RVs at all either....

Good riddance to bad rubbish !!! :thumbdown:

TD's are for Real people ... Who want real value for their bucks ... Not some shuck and jive from extremely GREEDY people who want ALL your money , for so little in return... :twisted:

You can build as hard or as simple as you like. Just be sure to give it alot of thought and don't rush into your build or you might do something you'll regret later.

I understand your question, but an answer is hard to come up with -- at least for me. There are a few things I wish I would have done differently, but there isn't anything "missing" from my build.

Each builder has to decide for themselves how basic or how loaded they want their TD to be, and then build it.

What about the 4-ft wide vs. 5-ft wide decision?

5 FT if you are a couple. 5Ft still fits within the footprint of the TV.

Missing

lets see I have a living room ( the pop up) a kitchen with hot water (the galley) a bathroom (the porta potty and a shower tent) and a comfey bedroom with, air conditioning and heat.

OH OH I know a refrigerator I am still using a cooler. A couple of my teardrop camping buddies DO have one though.

Reading the above, I am thinking "what does a television size have to do with a trailer," It did dawn on me that TV stands for tow vehicle. Guess I am just a bear of very little brain.

Regarding the original post, I have moved from a tent and a 4X4 trailer and the thing that I see is the need for some storage. The box on the tongue is a life saver and under floor storage is a handy thing as well.

My buddy with the monster fifth wheel says I am missing out on his leather recliners, 40" tv with satellite, three slideouts and a gas fireplace.
His pickup barely pulls it so the only place he goes is to a lake 25 miles away.

I told him he missed out on the Redwoods I went to see last summer.....

my next one will have a washroom maybe other than that I have everything I need. I would eliminate the sink from my design because I have never used it. and I would add a slide out shelf for the laptop.

I was talking to my brother who lives in Brookings OR and he has not had his big diesel pusher RV out for the past two years. It seems to be a lot of effort to take it out and so few places that it will go. Lots of comfort once you get where you are going but you can only go to parks set up for an RV of that size.

I prefer having something that I can take on dirt roads and find just the right spot without other campers around. We still like camping but in our golden years, we want that camp to have a few comforts.
