What to BUY???

Hi all,
I'm brand new to the list and to the idea of teardropping - is there somewhere on this list that I can read about various manufacturers, comparisons. I'm looking for a newish rig, preferably used but in excellent condition. HAve questions about kitchen IN or OUT. I'm sure this info is on here somewhere, but I'm not finding it!

I think I'm Hooked on the "Teardrop trailer" concept. I happened on the teardrop concept last night and couldn't stop researching this topic. I found your forum and have been reading the numerous posts. I was originally looking up designs to build a "Camp Kitchen/Chuck Box/Camp Box" for the family this summer. The teardrop is a camp box on wheels!

I had an idea of renovating an old small trailer as a project last year, but I like the concept of the small teardrop trailers. I've seen them out on the road, but have never really looked at them or wondered what they were.

My wife and I like to tent camp and don't like the big campers. We took a trip to Utah two summers ago in a motor home and I found myself putting a tent up outside the motor home at several of our stops. There's nothing like camping outside and a teardrop looks like it'll fit the bill for us. All I got to do now is convince my wife on the idea.

I just purchased some acreage in New Mexico and I want to set up a camp site this summer. I'm looking seriously at the Yoder/Amish Built Teardrop Trailer that's on Ebay.

I'll stand by and obsorb all this for right now and see which way I go.

All I can say is that I'm hooked!

Thanks. I don't think I want to build anything right now. I'd like to just make a purchase. I have too many other projects going on. I'm surveying the Teardrop Community to see what is out there. I'm looking at the "Camp Inn" models right now. They're a little pricey.

I do have one question. These Teardrops are mostly custom made and is there any problems with them falling apart due to the vibrations on the road? I would assume that this is a problem, or could be a problem as the trailers get older, especially if they're taken off-road. I have a Jeep and like the trails!

There are some home builders that have "purpose built" for the rigors of off-road use...

Welcome to the board...Y'all.(the proverbial two birds with one stone) Look in the links section at the top of page for some manufacturers. Many of them and the TD specialty parts people keep a "for sale" section on their site...A properly built TD is a "torsion box" and will be around long after the cows come home...as Coop, said...if your going to do some serious offroading then you may want to consider buying/building a purpose built unit.

I have to agree with what Madjack said

A properly built TD...will be around long after the cows come home

Our 2002 Camp-Inn 550 Ultra has well over 50,000 miles on it. It has been to New Hampshire twice, Florida 3 times, Utah and Alaska once each, many 1,000 mile round trips and lots of overnighters. It has been used in all seasons and all types of weather. It has held up very well - no major problems or fixes, only minor ones that go along with many miles, lots of use and being loaned out on several occasions.

Best of luck in your quest to own a teardrop. Whatever you choose, your family will have a lot fun making use of it.

My homebuilt (custom) Camp-Inn clone is less than a year old and we have over 8,000 miles on it. We live in the hill country and the road (7/10 of a mile) to our house is un-maintained so we take it off roading all the time. it's held up so far.
