Getting old sucks

getting old IS sucks. I will be 36 this summer and already have hair gone on the top of my head! I am feeling all the wrecks this year I had when I was cowboying for a living. and I amit life at 36 will be nothing like it was at 30!

Seriously Folks with all fun put aside I have seen as well as you all that we know people who didn't get the chance to complain about old age as we are doing here. I saw a child of mine die and I saw my wife die and heard many stories of soldiers dying for our country. We just need to be thankful to be able to feel these pains of old age because others didn't.

As strange as it may seem old age has it's good side. I am just trying to find much better reasons for it other then what is going on now. Sorry for the rant but I feel I just had to........

I may no have a lot of years on my yet. But a 41 with 2 bad knees and a son hat just got his license and bought his first truck .... some days I look in he mirror and see all he gray on my chin and boy.... do I feel old.

Russ I never meant to down play the role of those who never lived to reach what we call old age.
Jenniffer 30, susan 36, two still born, Shirley 64 older than the others but still not old.
I hope I never suffer like the three who lived be it for a short time they all died from cancer.
I sat day and night with Shirley and watch as the life drained from her body.
I only hope I can be as strong as Jenniffer, susan and shirley when it comes my time to breath my last breath.
So take heart when I say I have felt your pain I have walked in your shoes I will go on as we all must, but getting old still sucks.

I don't like getting old either, but it certainly beats the alternative.

I have this relatively recent habit of forgetting words - especially the name of an item. I can see it, I can pick it up in my hand, I can pass it to you and let you hold on to it - I can't tell you what the devil it's called. I can't describe how frustrating it is.

A friend of a friend of mine is a psychologist, and I asked him about it at a dinner at this mutual friend's house one night. I described the problem and asked him if he thought I should see my doctor about it - I had just turned 40, and was worried about Alzheimer's.

He asked me if I was worried about it. I told him yes, it was getting more and more frequent, and I was getting really worried about it. He told me; "If you're worried about it, you're fine. If there was a problem, you'd never know it."

I wish I could remember his name...

Red Skelton once said that any morning he woke up and didn't see candles and smell flowers, he knew it was going to be a good day. He also said that there are 3 stages to life - youth, middle age, and "Gee you look good..."

Dusty I too had a problem not unlike your's except I keep forgetting would you believe it my own name, yep my own name!

So like back when I was sent off to summer camp I began to write my name in my underware

now when ever I forget all I have to do is pull out the top of my shorts and there's my name.

OK I saw a trend in the first post... I am a child of the '80s. Yes before mullets were invented... That's just for reference, because it still amazes me that people were born when I was 20 and they are now 20.

I remember home phones that were provides by the phone company
I remember when there were no cell phones, no internet, no remove controlled ANYTHING. You had to get home from work, check your messages, then spend a couple hours on the phone returning calls.
I remember my mom turning the porch light on to let me know it was time to come home
I remember fun was riding behind a bicycle on a trashcan lid tied to the back and smashing into a car because you didn't plan the turn, and it wasn't a lawsuit.
I remember .99 gas. (I know I know all you old timers got me beat, but hey this is my life)
I remember my childhood dreams and it has taken my 40 years to wake up and act up on them.

One of the coolest things is remembering what you had forgotten years ago. It is such a surreal feeling. Looking at old toys can bring back those feelings.

Getting old sucks to me because my back hurts a little more but I love my 40's, I know who I am. See you in ten years LOL..

Reading others recollections of things past is fun and a memory inducer at the same time. At least most of the time lol...

I found having to adapt to how I do certain things frustrating at first. Then I got over it and just went ahead on. Many of the issues with my now not so perfect parts are my own fault, products of a sometimes wreckless youth. Now I look back and tell myself I was luckier than I knew at the time to have survived it all lol. Like several have said, it beats the alternative. Overall I wouldn't trade my 50 something knowledge for my 20 something ambition. But there are some mornings....

It's not just the mileage. It's the deferred maintenance ...

So last weekend I went (as crew, as in set-up, behind-the-scenes, tear-down) to my first Starfleet event: Region III Summit.

I kept up with the friend (a 20-something, in between the ages of my two sons) all day on setup day. Couldn't stay with the post-dinner-toast folks either night. Monday morning I showed up for teardown, and the first thing that tore down was my back .........
