Campground reservations?

Postby akula1 » Tue Jun 07, 2011 5:38 pm

I'm still a newbie to TDs. When making reservations will they let you stay in a tent site? Will most tent sites have 115v at least? What do most of you do?

It depends on the campground.

Many state parks let you put a TD in any car-accessible site, some insist that you have to be in an RV site.

Generally the campground or park tells you on their website whether and what kind of hook-up is available (120VAC, water, sewer).

I'm camping at a regional park on the Central Calif. coast next week and they insisted that I had to book a full hook-up site, even though I was OK with no hook-up at all. Same price so...

Be sure to get a 30-amp crows foot adapter because many sites that offer 120VAC have only 30-amp outlets.

Others will chime in with more options I'm sure.

At the KOA put your self down as a tent trailer.

We were not allowed to stay at one RV place claiming they had no public restrooms.

You can always ask the ranger but Tent sites are ok as long as
1. you find a flat place
2. The ranger lets you drive on the grass some do not.

But be aware you may have guest coming over to take a look so have the bed made and fancy pillows or some ornate thing they can go ah too.

Ours has only drawn in one person but many of them have asked people to come back in 15 min. when they have it better set up.

If you are going some where you might look around on the forum and see if any of us are from close to that area and send us an email via the forum and ask about parks in the area.

happy camping :applause:

Not sure if all or any tent sites have electricity.
but all tent sites that I have seen do have a place to park a car, with a TD it and the car may fit.
A hard question to answer sorta like; some do some don't kinda thing.

happy camping

A lot of choices in Arizona

Postby mkitchen » Wed Jun 08, 2011 11:00 am

Hi John
We are blessed with a lot of different local, state and federal agencies that provide camping in AZ. Most tend to the limited and simple, such as forest service camps that only provide water and pit toilets. There are many though that go up the scale from there.

I have never had a problem staying at tent only camps with my small tent trailer and I don't see any problems with showing up in a TD. I prefer to stay away from the other RV's because they seem to stay inside their RV an run the generator all night.

If you are in the Phoenix area, there is a real nice county park at White Tanks on the west side and Usury on the east. Tucson has a nice park on Oracle rd going north of Ina. Here in Mohave county we have Hualapai park that is nice and cool at 7,000 feet and Davis Camp at 400 feet.

Most of the above, except Hualapai, I of course avoid in the summer. But there are many camps all over the state and they seem to accept small trailers in the tent areas. So see ya out there!
