Large Fridge for Tear Idea

I had asked a question about what was missing from a teardrop/TTT and one of the Big answers was a Large Fridge. Well after a little thought i came up with the idea to use a small chest freezer built into a tounge box. Chest freezers can be converted to fridge by the use of simple thermostat. The design is a simple first draft and the idea is still new to me. And i know the fridge/freezer will work, but not sure if the design is plausible to actually use on a tear. Just a thought i wanted to share.

it looks like a good idea but what if you didn't have a 110 power source? how much draw would that be on a battery with inverter

I doubt it would be effective to us a dc system for this. Guessing it would be similar to running a airconditioner off of dc power. Not sure on the amp draw, or wattage usage but did find out it requires a 15 amp curcuit.

they do have 12 volt and propane 3 way fridges that might work better for you

Was tossing an idea i had come up with. Not even sure if need a fridge this big, i focus mainly on hotdogs and lunchmeat when i camp. The big thing i don't like about the propane fridges is the cost. Your looking at a little over $200 bucks for the converted unit for 5 cubic feet. and the propane fridge i found was $500+ for 2.4 cubic feet. I do like the propane fridges thou cause they would allow front access instead of digging down to the bottom for adult beverage.

I never thought about a freezer before one person in my scamp group has an ice maker since they like me camp in spots with electric they said the loved having an unlimited supply of ice.

Some on this thread have said that if they had to do it over they would leave out their sink maybe a taller fridge instead would work.

I would REALLY prefer an upright fridge. Digging in a chest style would turn ME off too much. Wonder if you can get a thing rigged on the back of the tear that would accept one of those grates/racks that carry stuff. If you stick one of those racks on the back of the tear holding a dorm fridge, once you set up camp you can take the fridge off of the rack and place it on the ground, then slide the rack off of the tear and stick it under the tear while you are camping!!! That way the rack wouldn't be in the way of the galley while camping, and you wouldn't have to carry the fridge (just lift it, and maybe even full).

What I am doing now is putting a dorm fridge in the back of my TV (empty), and lifting it out when I get to my site, just to fill it, camp, then empty it again before I leave (and put the fridge back in the back of the TV). Then I have to find things to put all of the food in for the trip (cuz I can't pick the fridge up when it is full). Anyway my tongue is loaded with stuff already.

So I guess my question would be... Can you put something on the back of a tear that accepts one of those cooler type holder grate things for a dorm fridge, and not cause damage to a Silver Shadow?

I'm not sure on the weight but will look into it. not sure how it would compare to the deep cycle batterys, charger, full coolers, etc that i've seen others storing on the tongue. and as i said, this wouldn't be for a 12 volt system but almost every where i would camp has ac hookup and those that don't dry ice could possibly used as an alternative. I had come up with this just as alternative to the small campus style fridges and to keep people thinking and improving on there designs.

3.5 cu ft (Target) to 5 cu ft (wal-mart and Lowes) your looking at adding 70 to 86 lbs to your tongue and thats not including the weight of the food.

I have been hunting and gathering for my TD and I am a proud owner of a 3 way Fridge used in a Volkswagen Westfalia Camper. I have been running it on AC for a few days I am happy with the fridge!!! Great deal on Ebay too.
In my planing I will need to cool the coils with a fan, it has the computer fan now, just have to figure how I want to duct it, and use that heat in the winter time for the cabin. Next is figuring out when on propane is getting hot water from the fridge. I contacted one member that had done that using forced air thru a tank.... thinking on that one too.
AS for the beer and water storage it will still be iced down in the cooler!

Any input on dampers to direct the air around where I need it?
