Jerry can holder on side of Silver Shadow?

Postby Mukilteo » Sat Jun 11, 2011 1:07 pm

Just thinking out loud.
Was thinking about mounting 5 gal. jerry can on each side over the axle outside my SS.
Anyone see any problem with this location.

Sounds like a good place to me. What are you going to put in them water or fuel?

Fuel. Water jugs go in the back of the pickup.

I cant see why not. Unless you state has a law against having them there. That would be the ideal place for weight distribution.

I know "Always with the negative waves, Moriarity, always with the negative waves", however, does "Pinto" ring any bells. If you're ever in an accident those tanks have a huge fireball potential. Better to keep the gas cans in the bed of the pickup and water cans on the exposed sides of the trailer. They sell plastic Jerry cans that are the same size and shape as the gas cans.

Food for thought.

Cheers,

Gus

Just google jerry can mount
I didn't like everything in the back of the truck eventually smelling like gas.
That is why I was thinking about outside mounts.
I was also concerned about the weight pulling the walls out.
I can live with out them.
Wouldn't want to do a Pinto imitation.

I don't want the drinking water outside.
I get into mud at times and would be concerned about contamination.

I have a VW bus which, of course, has no trunk. I've carried a jerry can inside for many years. It's a real metal, clamp-lid type. Never smelled any gas. On the rare occasion when I've used it, I wash the funnel clean.

I feel safe carrying it inside. It's considerably thicker metal than the VW.
