Roof vent

My roof vent/fan lets in a lot of heat when the sun is overhead. I'd like to make some sort of inside cover to block the sun's heat. The frame is plastic so anything magnetic won't work. Any suggestions?

FL, How about a small square of styrofoam with some Velcro tabs... ??? Just stick it up there when you need it ... You can even paint it to match the inside ...

I have a square foam block that I got from Camping World (I think Wally World carries it too) for about $8-$10, that is an excellent insulator. I have been using it for years and it works great even in 110 degrees heat.

If you are not near a place that has it, you can buy the foam from JoAnn's I think.

Here's what I did Bob. Works great. I had one of my Cafe Press tote bags modified and use snaps to keep it in place.

I can't sew, at least I don't think I can. I took my tote bag to an alterations place on Nieman Road and they put it together, I installed the snaps.

If you can get something put together I can help install the snaps.

Mark from Miami made some hard covers for his vents. Either hard or soft it should help keep some heat out, lots of light also.

Looks like I'm late on this one. They make one that retracts specifically for RV vents. I saw it while going through the part and accessory catalog at the RV place. Rolls up like a retractable window shade, pulls out and hooks in place. I think 2bits has one.

Hmm, just got to thinking, if you put an extra set of snaps on the celing, you would have a place to store the snap on cover while not in use.

The solution that I came up with was to cut up an old 1/2' thick backpacking sleeping pad. It's pliable but rigid enough to squeeze it into the opening. It's blue, so it completely blocks the sun. My trailer cooled down 8 degrees within minutes of installing it. Now, I'm gonna cut another piece for my door window to darken the place up so I can take a nap in peace.....hahahaha....

wow, I never thought about the light factor with adding a ceiling vent. I also like it dark like a tomb when I sleep. Hmmmm

Personally, the light isn't a problem for me. I get on camping time, up at the crack of dawn, in bed when the bugs come out. The old lady on the other hand... She'll still be snoring after I got up, made my coffee, got the gear ready for the day, looked over the lake/trail maps, and made breakfast. And she likes it dark..

Get a piece of the smoked plastic that Lowes sales for window replacement. Cut the round shape of your exhaust fan cover out the smoked plastic and use the PVC glue or some other fastener to attach it to the top of the existing fan cover.
