Campground & attraction advice for Montreal & Quebec

Postby LoriCz » Wed Jun 15, 2011 8:15 am

Hi everyone!

I'm heading on a nice long (2 week) trip from Chicago to Montreal & Quebec, over to Bar Harbor ME, down thru VT, NH - maybe DC and back to IL. I've been searching online and I'm overwhelmed at the number of options. If anyone could recommend favorite places to stay or "must see" attractions on this trip, I would really appreciate it!

In particular, I'm having a hard time figuring out where to go in Canada, because I would like to park the car/camper somewhere safe and take some sort of inexpensive transportation (or my bike) and tour Montreal & Quebec for a day.

Any advice would be appreciated. Even regarding exchanging currency, as I've only been to Canada once before for a weekend in Toronto & Niagara Falls.

Thank you!! Lori

I just read a news story on NPR.com about the raccoons there. Apparently, they are all over the place, and very bold. I suggest you keep you food locked up in you car. Raccoons can open pretty much any cooler or storage container made.

You have been warned.

BTW, a lot of tourists think it is fun to feed the coons. DO NOT be one of those tourists. Besides the risk of getting bitten by a rabid coon, feeding them makes the overpopulation problem worse.

I never leave food/garbage out (or feed wildlife), but I usually keep it in teardrop galley. Has anyone known raccoons to get in when door is shut and latched?

I don't leave food inside my galley after dark, even with the hatch closed, so the raccoons don't get tempted. They may not actually get in, but they could do damage to my hatch.

If I am inside sleeping, I don't want to be awakened by coons trying to get into my galley.

wow! that is a lot of Territory.. for 2 weeks.. You could easily spend that and more at Bar Harbor alone..

The Gaspe Peninsular is incredible.. NH.. Vt. both beautiful. I have not been to DC.. but again there and that area.. again one could spend weeks.

Did you mean 2 years..
