Silly Foamie Ideas

Hey guys ... and gals , I was kinda' thinking how easy it would be to add some really cool Foam fenders , like those old school sculpted flowing ones ... would be Easy to carve out of foam , several layers glued together , and then covered like the rest .... Might be best if they're made to fit over conventional metal ones , just in case you have a tire failure and don't want to chew up your "sculpture" ... Just an idea ... not too silly ...

that is not a silly idea! i have been thinking about that on my second build. but was thinking about over the metal ones.

Dusty, I discussed this very same thing with my sculptor friend ... Foamies with rear ends like the old Caddies and 57 Chevys ...
All this stuff is easy to carve with Foam ... Most anything is possible !!!

You foamie folks have some really fun ideas going on

on fenders; take a look at the thread below, about half way down the page. Member jackdaw has done them a couple of times using foam molds. They sure look good;

I like that, GPW! That really looks late 40s-early 50s Chevy-ish. You got my mind running with the idea.

The cause of my '55 Caddy fixation was the van in that old Cheech and Chong movie - the box van with '55 Caddy fenders molded to the rear end of it:



There are a couple of teardrop designs that would lend themselves to this kind of treatment. Like I said, you got my mind running with this idea.

Hi KevinR,

I like VW Rabbits too. 'Had a '77 & an '81- both 2doors. We now have a
2007 4door that is an absolutely great car. It replaced a 1996 SAAB
9000S. The Rabbit feels just as solid as the SAAB did.

Just a suggestion: --- Why not have the front and rear profiles the same?
That way you could mount identical [junkyard finds?] hatches front and
rear. I've seen pics of VW Vans [old and new styles] that have been
converted into TTTs.

Hey, I found one! Check out the two 2nd from the bottom pics on the
right side, especially the red one. Two hatches look like they'd be
handy:

Maybe you could cut out the sheet metal frame for the rear hatches
and splice/mount that on/with the foam composite [canvas&glue a/o
fiberglass & resin] and thus have a ready made opening frame and
the hatch all in one.?.
