Forget the mattress, the box spring is the hard part !

If it's foam it should just roll up, no ?

That is what I did, then that didn't work so I stuck one ned in through the door and bent and pushed and squished much to my husbands amusement til it went. in.

then he asked how was I going to get it back out if I wanted to.

I bought a 6" memory foam mattress on-line. It was delivered tightly wrapped in a compressed state (about 2" thick). It was less than 20" in diameter, so it went right in the door.
My question would be how to get the mattress OUT of the camper!

We got a queen size mattress thru the door without hurting anything. fold it and start shoving ! We only have one door, and I went in first to guide it, for a while there I thought they were going to have to bring the "jaws of life" to cut me out when it got a little stuck and filled the whole doorway, but it finally went!!

In building my teardrop we left the back open enough to slide the mattress out.
It makes changing the sheets so easy.

An upholstery guy once showed me how they get the foam into seat cushions by putting it in to a plastic bag and using a wet vac to suck all the air out.it was cool how the foam went to about 1/2 its size,he slipped it in the upholstry and let it inflate.I have to think it would work on a foam mattress.A conventional mattress? that may be a wrestling match.I'm not that far along but plan on using foam and hope my doors are big enough to roll it in.

If you order a foam mattress online they come all sealed and shrunk, put it inside the trailer then open it and let it expand.

An inner spring futon mattress will fold nicely.

A regular futon mattress will fold too, but two inches of cotton batting isn't anything like a real inner spring mattress...

My pillow top queen went it before the front of the roof was buttoned down and will probably come out in pieces !

If you look close at this picture you will see the lexan roof has not been screwed in place yet. It was waiting for the matress to be installed!

Ordered a 6" queen size foam mattress online. When it arrived in a box, shrink wrapped, I made the mistake of opening it inside the house instead of putting it in the Tear first! It took on a life of its' own!! After I had a good laugh, the hubby and I folded it in half, held tight and walked it to Tear, worked it in and really didn't have much of a problem. Oh, I did put a waterproof cover on it before we stuffed it in the Tear.

Sold the Tear without the foam mattress. Was as much fun getting it out!
