Heikki,

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your father in law.

My father in law passed away two years ago under very similar circumstances. he had a heart attack at home and was in cardiac arrest for about 20 minutes before the paramedics restarted his heart with a defibrillator. He suffered extensive brain damage from the lack of oxygen while his heart was stopped. Like your father in law, had he lived, he would have remained in a vegatative state for the rest of his life.

My Father in law was a very proud and independant man. Following another family tragedy a few years earlier, He had made it known, that he would not wish to to be kept alive in that condition. After consulting with the doctors, and per our request, they disconnected his life support machines. He passed a way a few hours later.

Heikki over time, the pain will ease and will be replaced by the many memories you share. Now, when the family gathers, we'll often talk about Papa. Soon, we're all smiling and laughing as recall the good times we had together. Give it time. Things will get better.

Take care my friend,
Tom Swenson

Heikki and family,

I wish I had words that would lessen the pain that you all are sharing in your time of loss. I know that nothing I say can do that. You are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Heikki, I've been away for a few days and am very sorry to hear of this. I can on include ya'll in our thoughts and prayers. As all have said take time to include the family in sharing the fun times, and all the stories that were pass from him to each of you no matter how small. It actually helped me with the loss of my "Granny'. She and I were very close. Being able to talk about the wonderful things she had done and taught each of us was hard at first but after many tears the stories turned into the great times each of us had had.
There is a silver lining in the dark clouds that only you all will find.

Heikki-

You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. I find the pain does go away - and the memories will become more intense.

Dear Friends

Just got back from Eastern Finland.. from the funeral of our loved one..

Man and Ohhh Boy what a feeling of a Lost Sheep sort of speak... A feeling of well ....Emptiness, would that describe the present feeling...

Its just strange....
But in any case were back home and we know life has to move on...

Just had to tell you all...
Best wishes from all of us here...

My heartfelt condolences on your loss.
When my Dad passed 10 years ago March 12th, I received the following poem from a friend. It helped me, and I hope that it might help you, as well.

When God sends forth a tiny soul
To learn the ways of earth
A Mother’s love is waiting here
We call this wonder BIRTH

When God calls home a tired soul
And stills a fleeting breath
A Father's love is waiting there
This too is BIRTH not DEATH

Please realize that though you feel his loss here on earth, that he continues to LIVE, protecting you and yours and exercising faith on your behalf.

Again, my condolences.

kurt

Dear Kurt just have to let you know the verse you wrote for us was translated in the Finnish Language and it was read at the funeral...
All were very moved by it..I also spoke a little about all of our friends here on the site.. The family was very touched ...

Thank You
