Ok I just got 6x10 trailer. Im in this trailer $200 bucks its solid all metel. My original plan was to build a benroy 5x8 using the generic plan provided by this site. Now I'm at a crossroads do I cut this trailer and modify are do I just build 6x10. I'm Better with metel then wood so I was really wanting to stay as simple as possible on the carpentry side of things. What are ur thoughts.

Depends on your needs and desires. 5 x 10 teardrops are very popular. 6 x 10 would make a nice little standy or slouchy. Do you have room to store a 6 x 10 once built?

6 x 10 will cost a ton more in wood than a 5 x 8. anything bigger than 4 x 8 means more wood and more waste.

Mine is 5 x 10, and I love it, however the extra height (56" tall inside) is mostly wasted space in the cabin. Handy in the galley for more storage.

Find out what plywood dimensions are available in your area. Some folks have found reasonable 4 x 10 sheets of ply, some have used 5x5 sheets. at 6' width, you will probably have to use 4x8 sheets and waste (or re-purpose) 2x8 cutoffs.

I'm pulling with a full size truck. Not really concerned with weight. I don't want to spend a ton in wood.

Ronnie, a 5 wide, built right will let you use a queen size bed.
I guess 6 wide would let you do a king or 1 ft of storage along the side.
a 10 long will take one more sheet of plywood for the sides.(see my pictures)
In my opinion,(and it's worth just what you are paying for it) it dosnt take a whole lot more plywood for the roof to go 6 wide insted of 5 because your cutting off a full sheet either way.I didn't go 6 wide because I wanted the wheel stance closer to my Tow Vehicles width.The other thing to think about is, the more width the heavier the hatch.Sounds like you got a good buy on the frame,I have about $400.00 just in materials.

my original plan was to build a 5wx 8L but the donor trailer I got was a 6w x 8L. the cost was not much greater than the 5 x 8. the one I made is 4ft high just like most other tear drops. The 2 extra ft you have could be used at the front for bikes or a nice storage locker. THis would reduce your tongue weight. Mine is towed easily with a suzuki grand grand vitara.

Ronnie, Up at the top of every page (small blue letters with check box's)
click on" help with photos" and follow the directions.Make sure you make them the right size I have to change all of mine,thats usually my problem when they won't load.
