New Builder, Bradford UK

Hello all, I've been wanting to build a teardrop caravan since I saw one last year at the Newark KitCar Show. I have now started the build, I've got the week off and hoping to get the majority of it done by then.

I bought a trailer from eBay last year for £23 and I've found that quite useful, seems a shame to build on it.

Anyway, I started building about a week or so ago, but at the moment I'm having trouble sourcing some 20mm insulated sheeting for the 'wall sandwich', was supposed to be 25mm but for some reason they sell 25mm planed which is actually 20-22mm!

I'll start a build thread soon :)

While I'm here, I'm building using plywood, what is the best way to waterproof it (I mean brush on stain/varnish/whatever)?

Thanks, Lee

Hi Lee, Welcome to the forum.

Looks like you're off to a great start. :) I've just seen your build thread, and loving the fact you're building in the kitchen

After having resin failure on our first build, I've used aluminium to cover our trailers.... over a couple of coats of fence paint. It works for me, as I really the look, and it suites our climate.
If you're intending on keeping the teardrop outside...I would want something more than varnish to protect it.

Enjoy the build....It's a great journey

Sorry, I neglected to mention that it will be skinned with aluminium, I was just thinking bolt and braces, in case the ali leaks.

As for working in the kitchen, it's the only place I can, I have no garage or carport, I'm hoping for a dry summer so I can get the thing finished :)
