Fires are under control and fire crews have been moving out but fire danger is still so extreme. There has been so much damage here. The first fire started right in town and if the wind had been blowing a different way the whole town could have gone up. The Donaldson fire in almost completely contained but burned around 100,000 acres. There was another fire in town that was small but wiped out 4 homes and some structures. The forest is completely closed. We did have rain yesterday but now the fear is flooding. Helicopters dropped bales of hay over the burned areas and they have move in concrete barriers to minimize damage. Firefighters and those who work to save and preserve our land really do such a wonderful job around here. Mother Nature hasn't been kind to this area over the last few years and at every juncture there are people out working and doing an excellent job whether it be rain, snow, fire or whatever. We are supposed to get rain again today but skies are clear at the moment.
The forest is closed west of Socorro too. I was going to hike over there last week on my way to Abq. but they had it posted. I say on tv the bosque is opening back up. Hope that isn't too soon. Watching the blazes from my deck really made me a believer.
Ah, Chama, one of the most beautiful areas around. I love going up there.
