Nice touch on the corners and aft end...that will really help. You might try All-Rite in Hollister or Cardo in Sacramento for the rolled aluminum siding. Cardo is limited on his sizes however. I bought 4" break from him on my last trailer. All-Rite has more patterns and colors, here's a link. Doug

I think I really like that trailer.

Maybe I should tear my new build apart again and build one of those. NOT!

But I really wouldn't mind finding a relic like that and rebuild it. I think that one is awesome. I can't wait for more progress pics.

And thanks Doug for the aluminum sources. I've been in contact with alrite already, but I am considering polishing out the old skins. Its alot of work, but will keep the trailer more original. I've done a small section and it looks pretty good. I've also patched some holes and they turned out good as well.

I am fascinated with your King Richard rebuild! I would love to build or rebuild a small Tear, but I am a year or two away from a full recovery of major back surgery. So I get my kicks by watching you guys do all of that wonderful restoration

My wife and I are about 3 weeks away from taking possession of our new Little Guy 6 wide. Our first ever 'off the ground' camping experience. We are north of you in the San Joaquin Valley, east of Fresno in the foothills. Keep posting pictures of your re-build and young helpers.

We lived in the Dominguez Hills mobile home park for many years and used to motorcycle all over Southern Calif. It would be great to meet up with you at one of the local rallies. We sure are excited about our first trailer!!

Outside this is the first I've seen of your thread but I did notice that your King Richard looks like one of the GA TJ members over on the TJ side. He has a 1956 that he rebuilt and pulls with his Nova wagon. His name is HArold Harrison and there are pics of it in Marvins album under the GA Skidaway Island Gathering. He can probably give you alot of insight into rebuilding yours.

Looking at the original frame I am struck by how lightweight it is. Simple angle iron and channel. It stands in marked contrast to the 2" and 3" tubing used by builders today.

Am I correct in thinking the angle iron is 2" x 2" and the channel is 1" x 2" ?

Its been a while since my last update. Work and weather have slowed my progress. I cut all the wood for all interior parts using the originals as a guide. Profiles were cut out using the original skins as a guide. Then everything was varnished before assembly.

Here is the profile for the rear. Each piece was cut to wrap around my frame extention. I also included six supports instead of the original four.

Yes the original frame is 2x1 channel and I used 1 1/2x1 1/2 angle for the extra supports (I had it laying around the shop).

And thanks to everyone for the support, hopefully I can get some more time to work on it and even take it camping this summer.

With the profiles cut (3/4 birch) and ribs and interior cabinet added, I skinned the roof and front in 1/8 birch. It took several steams with the hot towel to get it to take shape. I put on the original aluminum to see how close it is and it looks pretty good.

I also took an old window apart and rebuilt it with new glass, seals, and screen.

And I've polished up some of the original trim. I found a technique to patch holes in the aluminum and will post that soon.
